"English steel we may disdain,
Secure in valour's station.
But we're bought and we're sold for English gold,
Such a parcel of rogues in a nation."

Irish song about the Scots...

It's a Scottish song about the Scots selling Scotland out to England.

Such a Parcel of Rogues in a Nation is a Scottish folk song whose lyrics are taken from an eponymous Robert Burns poem of 1791. It derides those members of the Parliament of Scotland who signed the Act of Union with England in 1707, contrasting their treachery to the country with the tradition of martial valor and resistance commonly associated with such historic figures as Robert the Bruce and William Wallace. It has continued to be associated with Scottish nationalism and also been referenced in other situations where politicians' actions have gone against popular opinion.

Absolutely the right result.
From the pound, economy, jobs, North Sea oil, healthcare, education - the YES campaign had more holes than Swiss cheese.

And what holes were they ???

I don't understand why the Poms (or you Andrei) gave a stuff if the Scots pissed off.  What skin was is it off the English nose?  Why did they care if Scotland had nothing for them?

In the end it all came down to having to face the economic realities of a much poorer Scotland without the British taxpayers funding their welfare system and almost everything else.

It's the reason Northern Ireland sticks with the UK instead of uniting with the rest of Ireland.

Looks like our flag won't need to change after all. Cheesy

The Heritage flag in the corner could have remained as it is.

John is a recognised authority on all things pertaining to Scotland and its people.

The North Sea Olive Oil and Salad Dressing gushers that come exploding up through the middle of those stilted platforms above the waves is what keeps the British economy afloat.

John knows this for a fact, and damned if I'm going to contradict him.

Good on Scotland.

Thinking about a Future,
rather than an 'out-dated' bitter past.

Good to see that England has 'brave' support
when the 'Cross' (of the Union Jack)
gets carried back to Jerusalem.

Watch Eire (Ireland) join now.  Wink

It's a bit different to YUGOSLAVIA
where the Croats & Serbians said,
over a few Aussie beers at a checkpoint,
"Let's have a war with the Moslems in the middle!"

Unfortunately,as you and I know Lord H(well me anyway) North Sea Oil isn't the sort of grade that produces much,it is owned by everybody but the Brits (it was sold of years ago) and all it does nowadays is keep a lot of Jocks in work..beats me where the English are involved in that one?

Makes me wonder..why aren't the English allowed a bloody Referendum on whether we want to keep the Scots?
