Writing in North America is becoming more 'simple' for the simple-minded. Twilight and 50 Shades are good examples, even the UK (part of the USA?) and its Harry Potter are a long way from something Umberto Eco would write.

I gather that because in some parts of the world: writing is found amongst the family orientated or youth. In the USA - Art can be seen manifest as something for the 'kiddies' (let alone - the mass), hence 'DisneyLand', while Politics is for the Adults (let alone the Individual) - hence the White House.
Come to Australia and Writing, is less fictional and more known for 'Paperwork'. Tongue Australia has more 'factual' paperwork than any other nation by 2/3rds.  Shocked That's 'serious' writing. While Politics here is becoming more 'youthful' and for the masses. I tend to think of Capitol Hill as 'Bag End' where all the little Hobbits live in the Shire (A.C.T).

So in a way - if you want to succeed as a Writer in the USA/UK. What sells is 'simple' stuff or 'Young Adult' fiction, etc. Don't expect great sales with something thought provoking and heavy. You'll only get 'establishment awards' from the Industry.
But hey, depends what you want  Wink

That's exactly what I'm talking about. "Simple" for the simple minded, because anything above that is beyond comprehension.
What disturbs me, for example, the likes of Twilight and 50 Shades aren't only enjoyed by the kiddies, tweens and teens, but fully grown adults!
Music is another example of commercialised "dumbed down", I cannot stand to listen to this rap and pop garbage that you hear non-stop.
I find myself actually enjoying music dating back to the 60's and 70's more than today's BS.

Marketing plays an important part J.. Freedumb.

USA/UK Marketing is the best in the world.

The German made 'Betachord' was far superior to the British 'VHS' - but it was 'marketing' that made the VHS more 'successful' around the planet.
So to can 'crap' stories and movies from the USA/UK be Marketed around the world successfully...
...while the USA 'steals' stories from other nations/movies/etc.  Roll Eyes

They can even market a good invasion of a nation for Oil  Wink
With the MEDIA in their pocket - anything is possible.

Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

An Australian extra-terrestrial, or illegal alien immigrant?
I am a white Caucasian Australian, born here and all. My father is an English boat person though, came here when he was four.
As for the E.T part... well fringe theory has it that all humans have E.T DNA, this is what our "junk DNA" is.

many blessings and yes

the 12 stranded DNA the human embodies here

on this biosphere is undergoing a grand transformation

in as much as the 2 or binary strand is intensifying

and bringing into physical resonance the 10 ' junk strands ' of DNA of which the phenomena is recorded

upon and within your scientific instruments ,

is a differing and incremental octave back to source/creator ,and as such it is not junk at all..

each strand makes up the 12 strand perfect human

and as such you are truly the master and saviour

you have been waiting for ..

it is so and so it is so be it

That was well explained. I have read many things on that subject.
Though I have never waited for any saviour and always knew it was a personal responsibility to be a saviour of sorts.  Smiley
