I had a meltdown and posted some hateful things yesterday which I regret.
I suppose when you see people you love deeply distressed by this stuff , you lash out and the constant calling of people "snivelling cowards" for being concerned about "terrorism" really got to me.
I had a bit of a Buddhist meditation session and realise the way forward is to work with building bridges and that, whilst I hate and despise these fundamentalists, that this hatred will only increase the problem.
So, for the protection of my loved ones, I am going to make an effort to get to know moderate Muslims , understand them and try to work with them to solve this most difficult problem.
Hating them , I have come to realise, will be counter productive,
We have to show them a better way . I don't want my children having nightmares about this. I did not raise them to live in fear

You have my utmost respect, Aqua.

I am not a Muslim, but my son has a Muslim name. He has no real Islamic influence and is very much your typical Aussie kid. I am telling you this because you spoke of fear for your daughters - I'm afraid for my son. We recently moved house and I am living with a constant dull dread of that look of surprised distaste that is becoming more common as we meet our neighbours and names are exchanged. It used to be rare, but it's pretty much the norm lately. I have seriously considered changing his name because he is starting to suffer some mild anxiety. Imagine the fear of a little girl with the scarf?

These are crappy times, but when people like you stop and reconsider and look for the humanity behind the distorted pictures we're shown, only good will come of it.

It's a different world cods. It's been a couple of decades since it was safe for women to walk alone at night, nothing to do with Muslims though. It's just common sense not to let young kids walk to and from school on their own, still nothing to do with Muslims.

Fundamental/extremist/fanatical Muslims are less than 2% of the population, which are less than 2% of the Australian population.....the fear mongering is way out of proportion to the likelihood of dying from a terrorist attack.

Tony Abbott worries me much more than any terrorist threat.

Good thinking.....meditation is good for the mind, body and soul.

Imagine what the threat would have been if our country had have kept its nose out of the Middle East.

You will find that as you befriend moderate Muslims that they are just like you, they want a peaceful life, to work, to raise their families in peace, pretty much what we all want.

Very well said AQUASCOOT.

It's all about the 'hatred'. I'm watching close friends of mine suddenly have their lives 'possessed' with this hatred. It's like they suddenly have an excuse to bring out all the blame for all the 'lack of' in their lives - as if killing Terrorists is going to make things better. It's like watching kids rush to a fight on the other side of the school, not to watch - but to join in (not knowing really why there is a fight in the first place?).

...for nearly a Century, through the great Wars, there has been a shift of Human existence via 'Colonisations' that believed that the World should have an 'All-White' Northern Hemisphere just like the Yin/Yang of Taoism (that simple mindedness for simple minds that just see things as 'Black or White'  Roll Eyes). So it was that the USSR/USA cold war was a default convergence to push the slanty-eye slope-head
'Yellow'
people out, as well as all the trouble in the Middle-East was to push the big-nose honky
'Brown'
people out (expel the Jews out of Europe, etc).
But things didn't really turn out that way - did it.  Wink
Now the
WRATH OF KHAN
is on the horizon with both the Middle-East and Asia about to settle the score. In a way, the West is about to get what's coming to it for what it has been doing.
You know it was the 'Wrong Way' to do such a thing. You only have to look at the state of the World's health to see the stupidity (Taoism) of it all.

FEAR IS THE MIND KILLER

Changing the name to an Australian name is the least you could do. My German grandfather and all his brothers and sisters anglesised their names when WW! whipped up a fever of hatred against the Hun.

JUST DO IT!

Don't delay, procrastinate, linger in limbo, or loiter at Opportunity's Door to make this long-overdue change.

NOW! sister.

Don't let him continue to drag this dead cat around with him. Life has enough 'challenges' without you making it any more difficult through your own volition.

Swap his Mohammadan name for a nice, harmless, politically-neutral name like ... er ... 'Herbert'.

Cool

What a pathetic bigoted bonehead.

Kill muslims is your credo. Hate is your fuel.

No.

I'm not going to validate ignorance and he doesn't want to either. His name has a beautiful meaning that suits him. I'll continue to teach him to be proud of who he is.

It's pathetic to see that Australia's excuse for a national identity and sense of patriotism is an act of going overseas to kill other people for other people. (And if they get their butts whipped, they can always blame the others - like the British for Gallipoli.)

That's terrible, Annie.  You have my sympathies that Islamophobia is personally affecting you in such a way.   Its disgusting that fear and loathing, driven by ignorance and the MSM does this.  We've seen it before though, with the Irish, Jews, migrants in general, the Indo-Chinese, Asylum Seekers, etc., etc.  Australians unfortunately all too often are very insecure about themselves and their indentity and feel the need to assert their fear of the "other" in such Xenophobia.  We see it here, every day in numerous posts from the foolish and the fearful.
