I try to understand fear and have tried to conquer it all my life. its not easy getting on a horse when your guts are churning because you have just been thrown.
but conquer it we must.

fear is mainly fear of the unknown.
hence why I am off to the mosque to talk to some muslims and overcome this fear.

I find 2 truths on here.

one, rightards (and I include myself as someone who champions the small business person and the suburban battler) are easily made fearful and this is not a good thing.

two, leftards simply do not help the situation.
greg constantly calling people snivelling cowards does not make people confront their fears. it simply makes them angry and this is not a good thing.

so we have a terrible feedback loop going on with righties getting fearful and angry and the taunts from the left simply adding fuel to the fire. then the righties add more fuel and I can see that this can/will have disastrous consequences.

I have always been focused on trying to fix problems and I like new adventures.

I love Buddhism and I find Christianity very worthwhile. my fears led me to places I didn't want to go and now I look forward to the discovering for myself the true state of the muslim sentiment.

I used to drop in at the uniting church sometimes in my valley and found the people, just lovely. its why when lefties call Christians pedophiles and ass clowns I get upset.
I can see now that to not give the muslims the same courtesy is hypocritical and will not lead to a way forward.

My aunt is a very religious Christian. She attends church and my two cousins are members of the youth group etc. My uncle is an atheist, so he doesn't participate but the rest of them are right into it. I can honestly say that my aunt is the sweetest, most giving person I know and her kids are the same. I think they'd be that way without religion, but I like to think of them as perfect examples of the true spirit of Christianity.

Please learn to actually think about things. That's the nicest way I can put it without calling you stupid or something else that would be insulting and later regretted.

If prison inmates riot, they're punished with loss of privileges at the least. It's also a mark on their record when it comes to parole assessment which will lead to an increase in the time of a sentence that is actually served.

I lived in an area with many Italians ... no problem with most names .... Giovanni would get shortened to Gio ... Giuseppe to Gus etc. Nothing wrong with Mario, Alfio & similar shorter names .

I can't tell you the number of times I spent waiting for my name to be called out in a govt. office, only to realise after about the 3rd or 4th attempt that they were calling my name .. Giovanni would become Geo vaney or some other such rubbish ..

by the way, Giuseppe isn't Gus, its Joe, Gustavo is Gus ... I bet Giuseppe reminisces about the idiots who used to call him Gus Grin

My mum calls my husband (although his real name is John), she still puts her Italian slant on it and calls him Joe-vahn).

Religiousness is the true definition of fear. Even so-called educated folks can't accepf the fair possibility that we live in a godless universe. If that's the case our deaths will bring about eons of drifting in a black, soulless emptiness. That primordial terror has spawned religion, politics and a whole boatload of sensitive bull s.h.i.t. (much of it posted on ozpolitics by gutless types trying to apoease their consciences).

OK, so I dropped in and saw the mosque that is closest to me.
there were 2 guys there and they were initially a little guarded. I think they have got a lot of coverage.
I said I just wanted to see for myself as I saw this mosque featured on the news and the guy said to please drop in and see for yourself, so I was seeing for myself.

firstly, the 2 guys I met there were very well mannered but perhaps a little humourless.
they felt quite scared I think and they told me that several families in the area (this is the mosque closest to the bookshop where the guys were arrested ) had decided to sell up and move.
that made me feel very bad, right off the bat.
they said that it is very hard for muslims to get the message out as they don't really have a spokesman , as such. they did seem disorganised.

I would say they seemed a bit flustered.
they asked me about my religion and I said Buddhist Christian spiritualist and they were very quick to condem the killings of Christians in mosul.

one of these guys had lost his wife and was raising 3 small boys. he seemed a really decent fellow. I showed him a pic of my one arab horse on my phone and we chatted about horses for a while and he said his father raised horses in south Africa. I didn't know he was from south Africa. must be a different part of the middle east .

I was going to ask him about fatwas and what the arab league was all about but I just wanted the guy to have a positive experience and I wanted a positive experience.

so he found out where my farm was and he and all the men from the mosque had gone camping at the camp ground near there a few months earlier. he told me they all just lay under a big shelter awning type tarp and didn't like Australian tents.
so chatted for a while about echidnas and then camels as it had always been an aim of mine to eventually buy one. Not quite sure if he thought I was serious but I was/am

anyway, was a positive experience.

and the lawn mower chap was there mowing the yard and I said, not much work on because its been so dry and he said, they are great customers.

his mower put a rock through the mosque glass door and he offered to claim it for them on his own insurance and they told him not to worry about it.

that speaks volumes for character.
