Australia will catch up with the rest of the world soon. Climate change isn't just what is happening in Australia. The rest of the world is taking action as well, and they are doing a lot more than Australia.

For example, China's actions are necessitated by their need to reduce air pollution. Pollution in Beijing can be particularly bad, and much of it comes from the burning of fossil fuels.

It's not a problem that will go away just because the debate has been suppressed in Australia for political reasons.

what has pollution got to do with climate change?  London was like this 60 years ago.  THEY FIXED IT UP.  China is decades behind the rest of the world and going thru now what the rest of went thru during the 70s when pollution as the big agenda.

It is greenhouse gases that cause global warming....Do you deny CO2 is a greenhouse gas Longy???

Huh Huh Huh

Yes, and this is why CFC's were phased out of things like refrigerators and air conditioning units. Don't need a tax to make a difference!

There is an alternative to using CFC's in refrigeration.....The Abbott Government is scaling down the alternative to burning coal.....A price on carbon is considered by most economists to be the most effective way to reduce emissions.....Direct action is going to cost billions of dollars that the taxpayer will pay instead of the polluters.....Either way CO2 is a greenhouse gas which was my point not the mechanism to reduce its use!!!

Co2 by itself does stuff all. Its everything that the failed models predict it does as a secondary (causing more water vapour ect), that is of debate.

The Greenhouse effect is the whole debate which correlates directly to the use of CO2, which is a Greenhouse gas.....Can you post a link citing where CO2 does stuff all???

Huh Huh Huh

DAS Energy:
"The LNP wants schools to dumb down Australian children so Coal again has a cheap work force !"

You obviously have no idea what coal miners earn.

And by dumbing down the kids, I can only assume you are talking about revising the curriculum.
Anybody with any sense - and I believe the polls show this is 65% of the people -  knows that a curriculum revision is aimed at "dumbing up" the kids by concentrating more on the basic building blocks of education.

I can only assume, since you rarely explain anything, that by the "wonderful history of Abbott" you are referring to the history of western civilisation.
You have a problem with western civilisation? After all, it is the history which has led to a greater & greater proportion of the world's population being lifted out of poverty.
But I'll excuse you on the grounds that you very likely know nothing about history or anything else very much.

An apology from Australia to the rest of the world is now warranted

It almost feels as if the Enlightenment never reached our shores – and climate policy is but one victim of the malaise

Monday 13 October 2014

In August 2014, the Australian parliament voted to repeal a scheme that placed a price on carbon emissions. The carbon price was working as intended: reducing carbon emissions while supporting continued economic growth.

Australia was once a leader in dealing with climate change; seven years after ratifying the Kyoto protocol, it is now something approaching an international pariah.

This is how the New York Times responded to the scrapping of the carbon price scheme:

Quote:

At a time when president Obama is seeking emissions limits on new and existing power plants, and when many scientists are arguing for major reductions in fossil-fuel use by 2050 to keep global warming within manageable limits, Australia – among the world’s highest emitters per capita of carbon dioxide – has chosen to become an outlier.

Slate went further, condemning the “rapacious policies of the current government”. In an article headed The Saudi Arabia of the South Pacific, it told its readers how Australia became the dirtiest polluter in the developed world.

Strictly speaking, both publications are wrong.

Australia is not alone; it constitutes one half of the Canada-Australia axis of carbon
.

Not too put too fine a point on it, since the election of the Abbott government in September 2013, Australian politics has become fruitier than a tarte tatin. Nuttier than a pecan pie. It feels as if the Enlightenment never reached these shores. And climate policy is but one victim of the malaise.

An explanation to the world, if not an apology, is warranted.

Labour pushed saved the world whilst Australians developed the means.

Labour upon receiving that means went into save the Coal mines motion.

LNP are backing Labour and Greg Hunt joins Labour in concealment of gifted green energy technology.

China made public its thank you and respect for the Australian development in Carbon Capture.

The people haven't turned away from the problem, they have just tuned out to Governments bullshit.

LNP makes denial it about saving the business of burning Coal.

To allow Australian technology to supply cheap green electricity at half the price of Coal Black is not the thing LNP allow for it knows the power Coal advertising at election time.

The LNP has even taken Coal into its Government name so it don't think the LNP is anything but than for Coal.

Yet the ALP was going to terminate the tax.

Oh that's right, most of you people are myopic tools that can't see past Abbott.
