Consistency in Moderation.
Oct 16th, 2014 at 10:08pm

I've always been under the impression that acts of moderation, including who has been banned, was never made known.  I know of occasions when complaints have been made and no feedback has been given.  Many of the longer term Members here will confirm that as the case.  Yet.....

Link.

Question by me to Freedumb:

"How do you know he has been banned?"

'Her' answer:

"............A mod PMed me telling me so, I'm going by what they said."

Nasty, and a transparent explanation would really be appreciated by many Members, I'm sure.

Frigging hilarious, aussie pontificating on the fairness of moderation.

My alleged "friggin hilarious.......pontification" is not only moot, it is irrelevant.  I am not a GM here.

It would be 'nice' to know why Freedumb gets advised about who has been banned, yet... everything said in Feedback to date, suggests no-one ever gets so advised.

I guess Freedumb may have made it up, but that is for her to explain, not me.

You can called someone stupid, idiot, dumb, a goose, uneducated or a number of names and call one member not by his name but by IFULLOFSHIT and not get barred, but called someone a dickhead and you get a holiday. So where is the consistency.

Not true.
But you should really use some common sense in posting. Funny how people who don't abuse others and just post on issues never get banned isn't it?

funny how I have never been banned... yet somehow I get the blame for firing back...

as far as moderating goes I wouldnt waste my time anymore.a complete waste of time expecting any thing from them..

funny how being called an idiot is an insult b ut being referred to as a DRUNK isnt..oh thats right its funny isnt it?..same as shots at a late partner is..

.do not defend yourself against attacks like that...you are expected to turn the other cheek...

I know!

Is it a bad thing to be advised about who is banned and what no?

Also, I certainly did not make it up. What motive would I have to make something like that up? I'm no troll, and if I did make it up I would look like an idiot if the individual who was banned logged in and posted, would it not? If they don't log in, or they join the forum under a different name, the story will prove itself.

I'm not going to identify the moderator who messaged me, as I'm not one to throw them under the bus to get scrutinised  Wink

They can come forward, if they want to.

Aussie, is there a protocol or certain set of rules that moderators have to follow that says they shouldn't reveal who is and isn't banned?

I don't know, but their prior form suggests so.  I'm not suggesting you throw anyone under a bus......I raise it because it is rare, if not never, that a Member gets such specific feedback about the banning of another Member direct from a Global Moderator.  (Different in the Member Run Boards where it seems mandatory that it all be done in public and via PM.)

I'm not complaining at all that you were so advised.  I also don't mind what the convention or Rule is ~ but, consistency on the matter is necessary.

Oh, I see.

I'm sure we'd all like to see consistency. Some people get banned for certain things and others don't, just doesn't seem fair. But I guess it's down to every individual moderator is different and it is up to them to make the decisions.

I was banned from the tavern...the mod messaged me twice telling me it was the rule...not to dare enter her domain again.. Roll Eyes

and or dare to PM her... which I have adhered religiously .. she scared me..well a little...

aussie just locks the thread.. Shocked Shocked.

not a lot of of difference it is telling one to shut up.without actually banning them... Grin Grin

I am not sure what the interest is in who is banned...I will put my hand up and say I have never been banned by a GM..but that doesnt mean I dont  get hauled over the coals... in public..

why is that ok??>. being spoken too like you are a second class citizen in full view of everyone.. yet if you are banned.. its all hush hush??...

The "Mods" of the Member Boards don't have the ability (buttons)  to ban anyone, they have to get a Global Mod to do it for them (i.e they dob you in).  Roll Eyes  They can obviously lock threads though.  Wink

Be a tad careful about the advice you receive/accept cods.  Some have their own silly agendas from other places.  If you did that ~ you risk a permanent ban from the entire Forum.
