Abbott to cycle 400km for depression funds

PRIME Minister Tony Abbott is about to set out on a three-day bike ride from Sydney to Dubbo to help raise funds for a depression treatment facility.

MR Abbott will be in a group of 120 cyclists setting out on Friday to travel almost 400 kilometres from Taronga Zoo to Dubbo's Western Plains Zoo.

The ride to raise funds and awareness for the Black Dog Institute will focus on depression, bipolar disorder and suicide.

The Prime Minister plans to leave Mosman at 5am, head for the Hills district then ride towards the Blue Mountains.

Riders plan to spend the first night in Mount Victoria and continue through Lithgow, Bathurst and Orange, before stopping the second night in Molong and reaching Dubbo on Monday.

We are over governed and most new legislation is as likely to make our lives more miserable as to help

(I could never understand gillards pride at how much legislation she passed, most of it didn't help anyone or anything except the construction industry in Canberra and the office rental price in Canberra).

anyway, good on him, if more politicians took to the roads and just let the private sector get on with running the country and the economy without constant meddling from amateurs and failed business people who make up our politicial class, we would all be much happier, more free and more prosperous

Pity someone wouldnt knobble the brakes on his bike around Mt Victoria. That would also help cure a lot of Australia's depression.

so what is this going to cost us? Couldn't he stop the shenanigans, concentrate on running the country, and simply put all the money he is going to claim for this ride,as well as the cost of additional security this stunt willl cost and donate that to the charity?

it'll probably be more than he will raise anyway.

He's made plenty of trips to Aboriginal communities without media knowledge when in Opposition, so your argument is a massive fail.
