Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott is under fire after saying he had to visit a cancer centre so he could bill taxpayers for the trip.

"After arriving late to a meeting on Tuesday, he told MPs he had to pop into a Melbourne cancer ward so he could use it as an excuse not to pay for his travel expenses.

Mr Abbott was in the city for a "private function" – understood to be a fundraising event for the Liberal Party – held the night before."

Excellent con job he off on a 400K charity ride when in fact he used those honest cyclists given up their time and energy to better a charity.

When in fact he was cycling a 31 Ks to the Hills district of Sydney, not the 400K he deceiving the voter!

The prime minister is covering the first leg of the ride and won't be taking part in the full journey.

He was expected to head for the Hills district before riding on towards the Blue Mountains.

The Hills District (alternatively, the Hills Shire, the Hills, or Sydney Hills) is a general term for the north-western suburbs of Sydney,
