Paid public holidays

Periodic wage increases

Maternity/adoption/parental leave

Annual leave and leave loading

Protective clothing and equipment provided by the employer

Occupational health and safety laws

Compensation for injury

Occupational superannuation

The right to be given notice and to be consulted about changes at work (eg new technology, planned retrenchments, new working arrangements)

Personal carer's leave

etc.

crook is whingeing about jobs... where are they?

...why dont you tell him?

a lot of people can walk into Bunnings now and buy just about everything and do it yourself...

in the past we called in a tradesman to do it...

why I bet even you do it yourself these days....to save money of course.....

but it is doing someone out of a job...in the end.

you buy something on the internet.. there goes a shop assistant job??...

It's the other way around with me.

I used to do everything myself: painting, plumbing, electrical work, etc.

Now, I call in a tradesperson for most things.

I do shop on the internet a lot though, and that certainly is causing problems for retail staff.  Stores are shutting down everywhere in Perth (not all my fault, of course).

If I can get something on the 'net for a third of the price of what it costs in a store, I'll go for the internet every time.

However, if the 'net price is only slightly cheaper, or the store price only a little more expensive, I'll buy from the store.

We're in the middle of a shopping revolution.

Meh.

Abbott’s Budget cuts cost jobs and hurt economy

16 October, 2014 | Media Release The Abbott Government’s Budget cuts to science, innovation, skills and training will do long-term damage to Australia’s economic wellbeing, ACTU Secretary Dave Oliver told a Senate Inquiry into Budget Cuts today.

“The long-term future of the Australian economy depends on our willingness to foster and exploit process and product innovation,” said Mr Oliver.

“This Budget will do significant damage to our capacity to train, develop and retain the best scientists and researchers in industrial innovation, with damaging consequences for our ability to build a more innovative and competitive economy.

Mr Oliver said the Government has slashed $1 billion dollars in skills and training from the Budget and then announced a bandaid solution earlier this week with its announcement of an Industry Innovation and Competitiveness Agenda.

“This is like cutting your arm off and putting a bandaid on it,” said Mr Oliver.

“It’s an attempt to distract attention from the impact of deep cuts to our national innovation system by re-packaging the remaining money as something new.

“The reality is that while cutting hundreds of millions from science, research and education, the government is proposing to spend just $37 million over four years on supporting advanced manufacturing.”

Mr Oliver said the Government’s short sightedness has put Australia at risk of falling behind the rest of the world.

“The British Government has recently dedicated £500 million of taxpayers’ money to supporting new research in automotive technologies, yet this Government simply stood by while our car manufacturing industry announced it was packing up and leaving Australia for good.

“The impact on skills, training and innovation - and many thousands of working families – will be devastating.

Mr Oliver told the Senate Inquiry that developing and sustaining a culture of innovation cannot be done overnight and on the cheap.

“It requires long-term vision, commitment and funding stability, but at a stroke this Government’s Budget has signaled to business, investors and workers that their commitment to building a more innovative economy counts for little.”

We know the liberals cant be trusted, when it comes to industrial relations.  Seems though, they are not very good at creating jobs either.     Sad

mmmmm but labor can be trusted with not sending business off shore in droves... which unfortunately takes all those jobs you whinge about with them....

yeah right...

btw manufacturing is almost entirely done my machine today....maybe you havent noticed this???..

because with the way things are run by the unions..business is afraid to get into the 21st century they dont want to put the money where it wont work for them...business is hard enough these days...without having your own workers work against you...striking and go slow and demarcation ... all take their toll....I am not putting all the blame on unions..

but you sir never accept that the unions have a lot to answer for...and its not good for this country..

Jobs have left in droves under all recent governments. There is no bias towards Labor - they left under Fraser, Hawke, Keating, Howard, Rudd, Gillard and now Abbott in similar numbers. If anything more so under the Liberals. Remember that with GM they not only chose to leave but Joe told them to get out.

..more breaking news... a Stryker has been arrested for assaulting an off duty ambulance officer and a nurse who attended his door seeking to discuss budgetary considerations and their effect on services..... it is understood he struck each one thousand times on the back of the head.... police are currently holding him in a secure cell in a strait jacket pending a full psychological review.... multiple charges are expected to be laid.... more in our news at six... in further breaking news.... the Fair Go Enforcement Bureau has condemned the current upsurge in political violence in Australia, likening it to a form of IS fanatic approach to any with a differing view... the government is expected to introduce strong legislation that calls for mandatory twenty year sentences for political violence and is labeling such acts ' crimes of hate'......
