Of course it is abuse in clear breach of the Rules.  There are two options.

1.  The Rules are enforced.
2.  The 'abuse' Rule is abandoned.

Not too long ago, I'd go for option 2.  Nah.....you go that way, you can wave 'goodbye' to your Forum.

That would not happen overnight...............but it will, ultimately. I and I'm sure many of you have seen it all before.

In my opinion the strength of this forum lies in the laxity of moderation.

I have zero problem with that.  So.....the relevant Rule needs substantial amendment.

All fine by me...but I know it will end in tears.

Moderators should step in to keep a level of order to ensure free flowing opinions and that a level of social decorum is observed.
Everyone is entitled to make an opinion on here though free from being personally abused.

A lot of moderators time though can be sifting through endless reporting by some members of wild goose chases which aren't abuse at all.

The main problem we have here is the expectation that the rules will be enforced, the no personal abuse rule is unenforcable anyway in my opinion and should be dispensed with. Personal abuse is subjective, it amounts to what exactly a particular moderator doesnt like and thats wrong.

look, im quite sure in real life we could have a couple of beers and call each other dickeads in the time honoured australian tradition and think nothing of it. Why should this forum be any different? This is australia, not some poncy country like england where we all are supposed to mind our manners.

Depends where you are viewing the forum I guess.

I could say this isn't some uncouth, poorly mannered country like Australia - this is the civilised world, this is Europe.

We could all pretend to be civilised. It wouldn't hurt anyone.

but dont pretend you havent put me down when its suited you...of course its always been in a polite fashion...but it doesnt take away from the insult all the same.

Everyone here's a troll, cods. Everyone. Think about it - when was the last time you had an intelligent, reasoned discussion on ozpol? Where the loser of an argument would graciously concede and say, "hey, I never thought of that/you're entirely right/I'm going to change my opinion"?

thats NOT true of course...

but lets get the word troll into perspective...it isnt everyone...a troll is a few things... they are stalkers as they usually feel its their divine right to say something about a certain someone all the time...usually not a thing about the topic...its usually 1 line personal something....

like in the case of gregs posts about herb... "herb  is the troll"...yet its greg whos doing the stalking if anyone cares to count the number of posts.. Roll Eyes Roll Eyes as if...

the point is they usually ruin the whole thread...and turn it into a personal.battlefield.

I can see where facebook gets its bad name from....and the fact the person being stalked cannot seem to do a thing about it....they are cornered by a psycho.. so to speak... there is no switch off button..

do you not think gregs pursuit of herb.... is over the top? Sad Sad

it isnt amusing or intelligent... its sick and silly.

but there is no stopping him.

so why not tell us what is a WILD GOOSE CHASE...no names just examples... of silly reporting that wont get looked at....

a lot of people think mods read all the threads and cherry pick who they will ban.,...

well we know thats not the case....and if people are reporting silly stuff.. tell us what they are and you wont act on...in other words...

grow a couple...

I very rarely report anyone these days.... I find its doesnt stop anyone doing what they do...so it all seems rather pointless, yes one might get a few day respite.. but they return doing exactly the same thing.....

whats is the point of it all  andrei...fill me in?

Indeed.....on the Yahoo 7 forum the trolls were allowed to run riot and it eventually closed down. That's why we are here.

That's the bloody trouble. We have a pommy moderator that only been in the country for about 3 years and he wants us all to talk with the Queens language

Well I tell the pommy that I will be using Australia lingo and slang and if he doesn't like he can p!ss off back to pommy land.

I know the dickhead pommy hates my guts because I show him up like a dickhead he is. Now I will get another holiday for calling him a dickhead and all it will show is how much a dickhead he is.

If he doesn't give a holiday over this he will find something else to give a holiday for, and I bet it will be about my signature that I have had for months.

abbott's fault right???

idiot.

Looks like you can called some one idiot and not get holiday.

He often signs his posts as Idiot, I think that self insults don't count.

More seriously he does often say that but it gets little reaction from me, it only invalidates any opinion he may have and he mainly goes to that strategy when he has no other answer.

He has that label for anyone who does not agree with him.

It does however seem that some people are moderated to differing standards, some deserve it but some seem to get a free ride and are allowed to say what they like.

I don't really have a problem I tend to mostly laugh at any insults, I seem to attract them every day and have never reported anyone.
