The point Andrei which you dont seem to get is that personal abuse is subjective.

In some ways yes, the majority of the time the intent to abuse someone is clear to all.

There is no abuse of a personal nature in my post.

This is a forum. People can make a wide ranging set of comments and views.
They can call English stuck up generally, Australians louts, Americans insular etc.

Politicians are also criticised they are public figures, they don't post on here so again - unless it's libellous that too is not curtailed. Lord only knows George would be banned every week if abusing politicians was against the rules.

But personally abusing posters on here is not allowed. People should be able to post their view, have it criticised and not suffer personal abuse.

but it happens... and the mods turn a blind eye... in fact some mods even do the abusing....well its not abuse in their eyes obviously...shall we say PUT DOWNS...talking to cods is like talking to a rock..that sort of stuff...

if I did that to them.. the outcry would be heard all the way to fds office... Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

You can ask yes.
Depending on the situation it can be a warning, a short suspension or in the case of serial offenders longer ones.
It really depends on each situation.

NO Ian its really not about that  its more about learning the lesson..

whats the point of banning someone when they come back and do virtually the same thing over and over....

like stuff up threads with inane repetiative one liners..... usually with a sly  personal content..

too stupid to report but they do it all the time and to a lot of threads...they dont in other words care..

of course I understand that..but one member whom I chat to on PM.. has been a target for years....as I have myself...by the same pests...

sorry andrei I have even contacted yourself on one occasion but it didnt stop anything...they should be threatened with being banned forever.. full stop...

yes it should be up to the mods to say if its bad enough for that....not just some petty get your own back...but some of this... what could be called BULLYING...goes on for years..and it is the same thing the same comments some of us cannot open our mouths without these people being there to try and shut us up...if it was about the topic I would understand but it never is..

its personal.. because they never talk to others like that.. and they never ever take our side...the other person is always right.... always.so a little gang forms...

You cant be bullied unless you allow it Cods, thats the lesson for you. They are just words on the screen. And yes, I agree you are targeted but that is the nature of the internet and no amount of moderation will change it/ Theres an old saying that even the camp Abo has a dog to kick when he goes home at night.. A lot of these people are professionaL losers and have nothing else in thier life, internet forums are always going to attract a large number of these types of people because cyber space is largely anonymous. I will give you another tip, avoid on all occasions to post personal info on the net. Once your stuff is in cyberspace it is not retrievable and these people with their inferiority complexes love to have your personal info, it sends them into a feeding frenzy. I admit to responding rather harshly to some of your posts but the way they are worded and constructed just makes me want to do it and to be quite honest you come over as extremely arrogant and ill educated sometimes. remember we only have the words on the screen and for most it is quite difficult to read the emotional content into it so if you dont construct your posts carefully it reflects poorly on you even though you may have the most valid viewpoint in the world if you cant communicate it effectively theres no point in posting. Myself as an example, I am a poor typist for a couple of reasons, one, I have fingers like pork sausages, two, I am too lazy to use a spell checker or go back and correct the spelling. This quite often results in me being considered below par intellectually, hence I am constantly targeted for my spelling mistakes and poor grammar construction. Thats just the way it is, I dont lose sleep and neither should you. There are some very smart people on this forum but they arent who they think they are. So, take my advice or not but I feel personally feel  better for giving it so at least theres 1 winner here.

Depends where you are viewing the forum I guess.

I could say this isn't some uncouth, poorly mannered country like Australia - this is the civilised world, this is Europe.

Actually, that would be abusive, particularly given the currently subjective nature of things.

Further, it reflects somewhat ignorant, divisive and immaturity in response to the topic.

There's no personal abuse in that post whatsoever.

Firstly I did not say personal, however, to put it in context.

Your comment is clearly not something you are qualified to make judgement on. You made a deliberately offensive comment using a scatter gun approach.

I am a sixth generation Australian. Further to that, one who deliberately tried (admittedly I do fail at times) to not abuse people, despite being assertive.

Your comment I find personally offensive, that is the point. You don't have a framework to go by, and, given you made the personally offensive comment quite deliberately, you are hardly in a position now to try to worm it out by making the some spurious defence that it was in no way "personal" - I am telling you it is personal. That is from someone who has not nor will ever make disparaging comments about where you live, who or what you are descended from or apply any racial stereo types that may (fairly or unfairly) be named.

You threw out the barb, you got a bite, the bottom line is, I find it deeply and personally offensive, hence you have nothing to stand on.

Moderate that if you have the integrity...

I am not up to your level so all I can do is request you dont read my posts as they seem to offend you and agan thats not what I come on here to do.. offend..that is..

as you say they are just words so why do you take them so seriously in that case...

oh gawd dont say anything unless you can put it down so everyone of those well educated folks can read it without being offended...

dont get me wrong Cods, Im not saying you are arrogant, i can see you are a nice person, Im talking about the way we are perceived by our posting style which can lead to misinterpretation of  our comments. You dont need formal education to be smart. The smartest people use google to do their research before they post instead of just having a random opinion.

Very well said, ian. I never thought I'd be saying that to you, but miracles do happen. And Cods, don't let the trolls get you down.

That's why people often think Ian's a bit retarded. But now we know that he's just not nimble enough to hit the right keys.

Cods, you are the nicest person on these forums. I don't think I've ever seen you engage in trolling - you're actually legit. Everyone else here loves to stir the pot, so try not to take them personally. Keep up the good work, I like reading your posts - even if I don't agree with them - because I know that you'll be able to discuss something in a civilised way.
