Here you go........

Forum Rules

Personal criticism

Do not post personal criticism of other members. Do not respond to personal criticism of yourself or other members. This is the biggest problem on OzPolitic. Too many members are easily baited into off-topic personal exchanges. If you participate in any kind of flame war you will be suspended, regardless of who started it or who you think ‘deserved it’.

I have noticed some folks think the rules are for others not themselves.....you see them on the roads every day...

my best bet really is for everyone to ignore them.. if they trash a thread leave it to them and go elsewhere. I have been caught by someone who insists on asking the same pathetic question ...2 pages later nothing changes... STAY AWAY.

You're a victim cods!

Can someone tell me what trolling is? This is a PUBLIC POLITICAL forum. From what I understand, public means everybody's invited to have a say ( you know, demcracy). Political means at times discussing substantive issues, perhaps passionately. Some exchanges will be pleasant, others not so. To give an example,  I posted a thread in criticism of Whitlam's government- I was called a troll on numerous occasions. There are threads which are essentially dominated by the same 4 or 5 people, if you join in you're called a troll. If you respond to some of the moutrageous leftist dribble, the Marxist mafia will all sing TROLL in chorus.
Is troll just another sling to throw at someone you disagree with/don't like in the same vein as racist/islamophobe/misogynist etc?

Trolls are those people who chase you around the forum - not to offer a constructive opinion, but to personally abuse you and put you down. They trash a thread and haven't got much to say unless it's something nasty. As their vocabulary is so limited - they often post pictures to try to humiliate other members. They don't like getting back what they dish out though.

Both sides of politics are guilty of nurturing these pests.

Definition of trolling:

1. 3 or more ad hominems with NO OTHER CONTENT from the same person or more, following ones posts. This may occur in the same thread or in different threads.

2. A few mild insults and abuse I personally can accommodate without a problem SO LONG as these are accompanied by explanations relating to the subject of the discussion.

Example: link

My considered post is followed by four ad homs with no attempt to engage in discussion.

And I ask myself : "What the bugger am I wasting my time here for?"

you forgot to add the worst offenders never see it as meaning themselves.... Wink Wink.. we both know what the brunt of personal attacks means and the effect it has dont we mantra??????

I am happy for people to ignore me... I dont want everyone to love me and agree with me....just if you hate me... like I hate you... why do you bother???>... and by you I dont mean you mantra as I am sure you know..or you for that matter rocke... as I dont know you..and you seem to be a reasonable person..

a troll is whatever you want them to be....usually a pain in the A region... and as mantra says they stalk...herb cops it a lot..and he gets upset when they trash a topic he wants to talk about....what fun they get from it I dont know...if you get really bad the GM will ban you from certain boards....but I havent seen that for a long time now...

just try not to do it...."something to annoy others"

why anyone would come on here to deliberately put down other people never fails to amaze me...but for some its all they have got.

You're not putting them down, are you?

can you tell me what NAMES I USED.. or QUOTES..

you are past master at putting people down..

show me where I have??...theres an old saying if the cap fit????....you are good at jumping in on one person on any topic that you have had not a thing to do with.. because you hate that person...

put them down at every turn...yet if someone so much as breaths in your direction... you complain bitterly and in my case come back with something so spiteful even a child wouldnt do it...

this is the most I have written in response to yourself in a few years....because you once again are back at making your usual spiteful comments about cods....why I dont know...why you read my posts I dont know...you have managed to win over a gm...who also makes it known they dont like me...and you are quick to join in..

I dont really care.....except this thread is about TROLLING... and you are what I deem a troll a nasty one as well..as I have asked you to ignore me as I am doing so now... but because you do what you do.. I know it will have no effect....

I come on here to chat.. my chat doesnt suit you like it doesnt suit a lot of people and thats fine as I see it goes both ways...you want to make other people uncomfortable being on here....we all understand that.....I try not to do that.. dont always succeed before you jump in.. but then I dont pretend to be perfect...

but show where I have deliberately put down someone else....presumably yourself. Angry

I wont expect anything as you have never obliged before when I have asked for the evidence...but I do plan on this being my last post to yourself...hint.hint.

I merely asked you a question.

A simple 'yes' or 'no' would have sufficed.

Thank you Lady Mantra for your (as always) eloquent dissertation on the subject under discussion.

It's no secret that I'm moderately to the right of the political divide, but if you were my local Greens candidate I would vote for you every time.
