This is from my Home Town and I reckon I knew this bloke's Old Man. They are pretty good mud crabs, but I have seen far bigger around Bundy. Link. There was a road side cafe at Miriam Vale (between Bundy and Gladstone) which had a huge reputation for its mud crab sangers.

They are delicious.....but.....they are not caught in the fashion you describe. Do that, and you'd at least lose a finger, if not an entire hand. Those claws work. They are caught in traps.

See these claws.....and they have just been removed from a trap.

Well this time they were caught in that fashion...I thought they were insane but I kid you not . I was there, I saw them do this, no fingers were lost, they knew what they were doing...anyway next time I am going to try some..

I would let them all go....how would we like being caught in a trap so someon e can eat a sandwich..
