How is a single Muslim hostage taker going to do his prayers?

You can combine prayers in special circumstances.

That should give him until after 8pm tonight before he has to do any for today (excluding fajr prayer this morning).

He'll be tired by then..... they'll wait him out....

Plenty of coffee available....

I find the response to this incident far more unsettling and frightening than the act itself.

Why is it not surprising to see the usual culprits blaming all Muslims for the acts of a tiny minority?   Guilt by Association, the usual line for bigots and 'phobes.   Grin Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Grin Grin Grin

is it or is it not muslims ?

What is?  Do you have any proof that the perpetrators are in fact Muslims?  Anybody can buy a flag and hang it in the window.

Even if they are Muslims, why do you assume they are actually either (a) observant or (b) following the mainstream interpretation of that religion?

Your bias and bigotry is well known Sprint.  You are an Islamophobe.  You will I expect blame all Muslims for this in your usual idiot idea of Collective Guilt.    Grin Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

are you dumb or what???  an ISIS flag in the window and you don't think they are muslims??

Have you ever seen those westerns they made in Hollywood in the 30-50s, the mob is all hysterical about something and eventually there's this guy at the front clearly missing most of his marbles who screams "HANG HIM!".  Yep you guessed it. That was Longy.

Sydney siege: reports of hostage situation inside Martin Place cafe

A GUNMAN is reportedly holding people hostage at a cafe in Sydney’s Martin Place.
Channel 7 reported that an armed man is holding hostages at the Lindt Chocolate cafe, opposite the broadcaster’s Martin Place studios.
A NSW Police spokeswoman told Guardian Australia police were responding to an “unfolding” situation in Martin Place.
She would not confirm social media reports that a gunman was in the area, merely that it was an “ongoing operation.”

your posts on MH17 pretty much prove at least some of the above.

He laughed it off as a "knee-jerk reaction".

It's all to do with "literary devices and context", so he says.

I'll let others be the judge.

Well I for one am very unsettled and frightened that some people are realising that those swarthy middle eastern imports aren't really the loving, cuddly teddy bears some claim them to be.

That's far more dangerous than lunatics waving guns around.

Precisely my thoughts, too. Hanging a flag up indicates that it's ideologically motivated. Classic amateur attack.

A couple of young idiots who will hopefully pee their pants and come running out of the shop, hands raised, sooner rather than later.

He's balding and middle aged, from what I saw.

I'm guessing mentally ill and acting alone. It just looks weird. He looks agitated, he has the wrong flag and his backpack looks ridiculous for some reason.
I'm with you Annie, mental health issues is my guess. That will disappoint herb who we can expect to come out scream; "Yeah but he's a mentally ill MUSLIM person isn't he". And Longy of course would hang him anyway.

I was just thinking (no, hold the applause) about how dreadfully ironic it would be if this bloke was actually trying to curry support for the anti-islam brigade by pretending to be a terrorist. I believe this sort of thing is called a "false-flag" op.

'false-flag' is the kind of thing conspiracy theorists and their mentally ill friends claim all the time.

Possible but a long stretch... seems more like some individual with a funny idea of making a statement or being a martyr for something he has yet to specify....

Being delusional is considered a mental illness, we could say being delusional is common with muslims who believe Mo was a profit from god.

So a flag that says- "There is no god but god and Muhammad was his messenger" is the wrong flag for what?

They keep one in the shop incase a Muslim terrorist wants to put the place in lockdown and forgot to bring his own.

Is hostage taking one of those circumstances?

Not sure - its something he'll have to negotiate with The Almighty when he faces him (which may not be too long).

In any case, he still has until around 4:30pm even without combining.

Does the koran offer any guidance as to what constitutes special circumstances? Or does one have to turn to the imams for that?

Its discretionary - based on common sense.

You do your best to do all your prayers, but within reason.
