I'll go with the cops being incredibly stupid and dumb. a single head shot was possible twelve hours earlier. the ROE need to change such that if you take hostages and you are armed that you forfeit your right to live and lethal force will be used at the FIRST opportunity. if they had done that there would be no innocent deaths. and all this has doen is shown other muslim nutters that police wont shoot first. next time, SHOOT FIRST.

perhaps the FBI needs to send its HRT quad down here to teach our police commanders that having trained snipers is no use if you don't actually use them.

pitiful police response.

Once a gunman has hostages captive, it must be a hard place for the gunman to extract himself from.

Sniper headshot after a while negotiating must come into the equation for the poice.

lets hope when next Abbott wants a conference on security in this country... all those Muslim leaders who thought it singled out muslims so therefore was unacceptable may now come to the table...

this has done more harm to Muslims.. than putting real culprits in prison will ever do..... surely even they can see that...

this man by the look of his record should have been in jail...but because of the constant backlash we are afraid to do that....

....and that is what we in Australia, need to show understanding towards and not let this create more fear and backlash against a whole muslim community, and therein is where the Govt and laws in Australia, need to change, to rectify, since this lone wolf/nutter was known about, yet was allowed to walk among the rest of us, freely??? There may be a division in the way Australians think, some will have more fear and hatred towards the Muslims as a whole, and others will be more supportive.

I have decided to be more supportive, and after reading this below, this is what the pride of Australia is really about, and we can show the world we will not be dictated by fear.
