"Why was Mossad agent, Man Monis, given asylum in Australia".

The same reason the LibLabs let Nazi war criminals live the good life in Australia, whatever that reason was, I missed it, the reason went over my head, something to do with the law I think, the law that says even Nazi war criminals and Muslim terrorists have a right to citizenship and to keep it no matter what

blessings grappler ,

did the police kill 2 people when attempting to kill the operative ?

It's possible, but reports are that a sniper on the building opposite saw a hostage shot, which precipitated the ingress...

Possible that one was 'caught in crossfire'..hard to tell without full information.

Why did John Howard grant asylum to Mossad agent, Man Monis, in 1996?

John Howard must be tried for treason!

There must be an investigation into how Man Monis got a shotgun, and whether there are links to Israel.

Abbott promised no tax hikes & no cuts to the ABC

There's a 'budget emergency', so we will give $9 billion to the Reserve Bank, spend $12 billion on some dubious jets, $2 billion to bomb Iraq, etc.

I appreciate your levelheaded and informative posts. I wish they'd stop saying cleric - it's dishonest and divisive.

Wrong.

Any Muslim can legitimately claim to be a 'cleric' or imam if he can attract a following who will attend his 'sermons'.

The system is not like that within the Christian church.

If a Muslim is judged by his peers to speak with authority on matters to do with Islamic belief, and he attracts a congregation to his Friday talks, then by that fact alone he is regarded to be an imam.

It does not require the endorsement of higher authority to legitimise his status as a recognised cleric.

Sensei, you are mistaken.  Anybody can call themselves a "Pastor" and start their own Christian church if they so desire.  Many Evangelicals start out that way.   Grin Grin Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Media are asking questions about the type of weapon that killed the gunman.... inference seems to be that the thousand or so 5.56s fired off hit nobody... not the gunman anyway.

I'm sure the coroner will find a few in him.... but I was concerned that even after hostages were being taken out, firing continued, meaning he was holed up somewhere....

Oh, bullshit.  What an absolute load of cobblers.  We've had lunatic gun men hold people hostage before and we'll have more in the future.   It's what happens when a society abdicates it's responsibility to care for those who suffer mental illness or emotional damage.   Australia is the same today as it was yesterday.   I get fed up with this sort of crap and trite statement.  Australian society will continue on it's selfish and self-centred way, with the same hatreds, intolerance and boring emphasis on bread and circuses.   People will still go to the cricket and the footie (of what ever flavour) and play with their kids and have Barbies in the park.  It's hysteria like yours which will breed intolerance and hatred.  Grow up.   Grin Grin Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Already 'Sheik' Man Haron Monis is being labelled as a lone rogue. This may be the case however ISIS has called for an International Jihadist against Western Countries in particular. This is now living evidence that this is happening.

Australia must reflect heavily on this tragedy and decide just how we are going to approach the Muslim problem and it is a hugely growing problem.

My heart goes out to the relatives to all who were involved in this siege and to the families of those who were brutally murdered.

The cops who went in, were incredibly brave, straight into the line of fire, God bless them all.

they need to start changing laws now and change them fast while the Apologist have gone hiding under their beds hiding in shame for supporting these types of criminals..

apologists like pekkery, ian, john smith, Laugh till you cry ...

you know the ones on here.. the ones promoting Hate Speech...  Angry

You mean the people who think?  The ones who refuse to engage in witch hunts, pogroms and give into fear and hatred based on prejudice and intolerance?  Who ask other people to use what's between their ears rather than not?

People like you are silly and fatuous in your lack of thinking about these issues.   Grin Grin Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

So why were the authorities not watching this guy? Abbott must be tried for treason!

Quote:
...He was charged last year with being an accessory to the murder of his 30-year-old former wife Noleen Hayson Pal, a mother-of-two who was allegedly stabbed to death and set alight in April 2013...

...Sydney Shia leaders had apparently urged federal police to probe his claim to be a leading cleric...

...Shortly after Tony Abbott’s government was elected in September last year, Monis sent the prime minister a letter inviting him to a live debate in which he said he would prove that “Australia and Australians will be attacked...

Abbott wanted this to happen.

Abbott did nothing to stop Monis.

Abbott must be tried for treason.

I'll go with the cops being incredibly stupid and dumb.  a single head shot was possible twelve hours earlier.    the ROE need to change such that if you take hostages and you are armed that you  forfeit your right to live and lethal force will be used at the FIRST opportunity.  if they had done that there would be no innocent deaths.  and all this has doen is shown other muslim nutters that police wont shoot first.  next time, SHOOT FIRST.

perhaps the FBI needs to send its HRT quad down here to teach our police commanders that having trained snipers is no use if you don't actually use them.

pitiful police response.

Great, suicide by police.  Turning Terrorists into instant martyrs.   What happens if the rig themselves with a suicide vest with a "deadman's switch"?   You shoot them, the pressure is released and BOOM! Up they and everybody else goes.

You're assuming they could see into the shop and that the gunman was so visible that they could get a clear shot.  How do you know that was possible?  Were you there?  Of course bloody not.  What I hate is people who were watching vicariously through their television telling people who were there what decision they should have made in hindsight, when they have no pressure and lives don't depend on their decisions.   Idiot.   Grin Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Grin Grin Grin

In the face of adversity, we must stand together, not divide, not to look for scapegoats.  Otherwise, the terrorist would have won already.

Exactly.  Terrorists hope to disrupt society and force it to change to suit their agenda.  We need to ignore that, not make knee-jerk reactions and consider how we should react to events at our pace, not that of the Terrorists!   Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Grin Grin Grin Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy
