This is a copy of News on Yahoo website this morning. I feel I can now say that Katrina Dawson is alleged to have been shot in shoulder by Monis and died in hospital of a subsequent heart attack.

Yahoo News this morning :

Cafe hostages Tori Johnson and Katrina Dawson were reportedly shot by Man Haron Monis moments before police stormed the shop and killed the gunman in a hail of gunfire.

Mr Johnson was shot by Monis at close range, according to the Nine Network, while News Corp Australia reports Ms Dawson was struck in the body by the self-proclaimed Islamic cleric who had held them and 15 others hostage in the Lindt cafe in central Sydney for more than 16 hours.

During the hour or so in between making the gunman's name public - although it was known for quite some time before - and the time when it all went pear shaped, it got reported on both the ABC and on one of the commercial talk backs that the gunman had made demands in relation to his previous treatment in jail and that was basically his major gripe and motivation.

I have no idea how accurate that was. The ABC coverage was pretty shameful - they actually seemed disappointed that it wasn't going to keep on going into Tuesday and really wanted it to be much bigger than it was. I think several junior "reporters" thought they were about to have their "Oh, the humanity!" moment of fame.

all they need is one tiny excuse...

Bingo.  Any excuse.

This lunatic would have hurt other people, no matter what religion he was.

That is presumptive and not even likely to be true.  Since his motivations were entirely religious (which you will not doubt dispute) then his religion can certainly take some of the blame.

Religion was the excuse he used yesterday.

He has an extensive list of criminal charges, and he was a nutter.

If Islam didn't exist, he would have used something else as an excuse to commit his crime yesterday.

Stop making excuses for criminals.

Why does Islam lend itself to 7 murders an hour, but not other religions?

Probably because it's a particularly stupid religion.

Why are we letting in its adherents, then?

Because it's not 'illegal' to be particularly stupid - which is also your great good fortune.

Section 116 of the Constitution of Australia.

Christianity is also a particularly stupid religion: we let them in.

Like, it's supposed to be 'counter-terrorism' -- Monis should have had every alarm bell on the planet ringing

why? he wasn't a terrorist, he was a lunatic.

Dear John (Oh how I hate to write...)  I'll let you go away and think about that  comment.
Of course your rationale here is that lunatics -- even those reported to the government as having fake credentials and spreading anit-Islamic messages -- even those convicted of behaving offensively to Australian military personnel et al, even those recently advertising on their websites that that have converted to a radical persuasion; even those who have had a somewhat questionable relationship with the Iranian Intelligence and are wanted by Interpol; even those required to report to the police every day --  shouldn't be the concern of counter-terrorism experts -- that is until they are involved in acts of terrorism.  Is that it John?

exactly  ... good to see you keeping up

Sincerely
Agony Aunt

Yes it's important to be able to discern an act of lunacy from a real-world situation. I've already expressed an interest in counter-terrorism consultancy -- looks like a piece of cake. You may find a vocation in counter-lunacy consultancy.  So what do you make of this guy; should he be on the watch list?

you think everyone on a watch list is a terrorist? Australia had thousands on their watch list, the USA millions ....

oh no ... lets all hide!

Speaking of watch-lists.  Excuse me if I unsubscribe from your forthcoming informative and prolific posts.  G'bye.

unsubscribe away ....  Cheesy Cheesy

Aussie, sometimes I wonder just how much Criminal Law you practised.

Use your noggin old son. The POLICE gave Channel 9 permission to broadcast that news, where do you think it came from in the beak of a dove?

On question 2, Channel 9 reported that ballistic tests have to be carried out in relation to the second death. I have already stated that both deaths came as the result of injuries sustained by a shotgun blast, one directly the other one indirectly, cryptic but that's all you're going to get.

Do you ever sit down to watch the News? Do you have a TV?

So, you need ballistics to determine if someone was blown away by shotgun, or killed by rifle fire?  I have enough TVs in my Home, and have shot both to know that any amateur would know whether I had been hit by a shotgun blast or a rifle discharge.

But, then again, it ain't me making the announcements.  I'll wait to see what emerges in the cold light of day.  Until then, I use my right to question/comment. Okay?

The coroner's report should tell all - unless some want to start down the old conspiracy trail of the Coroner covering up for police..... ho hum..

I say wait for the report.

Only trouble there Bach is that Muslims have infiltrated the ranks of bikies in huge numbers, they would most probably be welcomed by the bikies in prison.
