May we all join hands and pray that the police are sensitive to the cultural differences and prepared to workshop creative solutions in an inclusive and mutually respectful atmosphere.

As someone said this event was botched from the beginning—I mean, Lindt cafe when the RBA is nearby?

You have clearly never visited the Lindt cafe. It is a landmark. An icon. Whenever I'm in Sydney, I say -- hey, let's go to Darling Harbour and visit the Lindt cafe (different branch, same quality).

Joe probably organized it to take the attention away from MYEFO.

I can see tomorrow's headlines. "Muslims concerned about backlash from yesterday's hostage incident"

The news reporting is very amateur.

How many hostage-takers are there?

Have they made any demands yet?

Are the police in commucation with them on their mobiles?

Has a car parked in the neighbourhood been traced to them?

Have the police vetted the CCTVs in the area?

Master herbert,

They should send Kochie or Karl Stefanovic in. They'd both either sort it out or get shot -- a win-win if there was ever one.

The only thing that would be better would be sending Mr Abbott in.

Simon Bouda from CH9 said they're being VERY careful on what they say about what they see happening outside because it's believed that the gunman inside is watching news telecasts of this incident and they don't want to tip off the gunman by broadcasting Police movements.

I'm sure we will. The gunmen have asked to speak to Mr Abbott.

If he resolves this hostage crisis, he'll be seen as a tall glass of water.

Anybody carrying a kalashnikov can probably get into any building he wants.

The speaker I referred to mentioned a likely target was a place that carried authority, the RBA or some of the other buildings in/around Martin Place.

I am getting rather tired of the abuse from the right whingers here and will refer any further abuse to 2-3 Mods—fair warning!
