Simon Bouda from CH9 said they're being VERY careful on what they say about what they see happening outside because it's believed that the gunman inside is watching news telecasts of this incident and they don't want to tip off the gunman by broadcasting Police movements.

Good. It bothers me when the media feel they have to broadcast live footage, because they forget that their broadcasts can be seen by everyone, including the perpetrators.

Harmony Day comes to Martin Place a few months early.

Quote:
Harmony Day

Harmony Day 21 March is a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home – from the traditional owners of this land to those who have come from many countries around the world. By participating in Harmony Day activities, we can learn and understand how all Australians from diverse backgrounds equally belong to this nation and enrich it.

Quote:
Nation's strength is its embrace of diversity, says Kevin Rudd

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/immigration/nations-strength-is...

Repeat "Diversity is our strength" 100 times until it's dinned into your brain. Apparently strength comes from importing people who have nothing in common with the host nation and in some cases reject every totem that we observe.

Such a policy seems to be steeped in lunacy.

The hostages got the Lib Lab immigration program they voted for - surely they must be willing to make sacrifices for it

A thought.  Underwriting Operation Sovereign Borders is what has been called 'operational' secrecy.  We Australians are not allowed to know what is being done in our name...because we need to be kept in the dark ultimately for our own well being.

Some lone wolf goes bereft in a Sydney Cafe and it is played out second by second on every TV screen in Australia and all over radio, and I'm sure, all over the print schmedia tomorrow.

Why are the Media at large NOT being held to account for assisting this bloke directly and indirectly?

Just saw some Ch 7 wonker tell us how it must be 'business as usual,' yet all day on Ch 7, it has been everything BUT?

Schmedia.

The reason that this situation is allowed to be broadcast by the mass media is because the hostage taker sold his boat.

The only thing that will prevent this from being a one hour "news" bulletin on Channel 7 tonight, is if a shark was seen swimming in the ocean today (not doing anything else, just swimming - like sharks do).

I'll be disappointed if they don't do live crosses to the store tomorrow morning, with Kochie holding a coffee.

I'm probably overly cynical and too quick to look for the obvious.....but......is it just me who has observed all day the ...... errrrr.......ummmm.........arrrrrr.........errrrrrrrr.......from the TV reporters?

Fair dinkum.  This is just ghoulish.  They want a disaster, and if they can't have that, every word will be dramatically over the top.

Take the time yourself, and watch what comes out of every Reporter's mouth....not the anchors.....the Reporters 'on the scene.'

Pathetic.

Oh.....and may I say (to get it out of the way) that I too hope that everyone comes out of this safe and okay...............but to Post the bleeding obvious ~ I hope everyone comes out of this safe and okay ~ is just..............wot?  Surely no-one is hoping for the reverse, so why we need to rabbit on about the blindingly obvious is beyond me.

good of you to miss the point entirely.  But a question for you:  do you care if any of the hostages live or die?  IM interested to see if you can manufacture and emotional response.

I doubt you 'got' my point which has been pretty consistent over several incidents like this over time.  I have zero regard for the schmedia and their pathetic beat up of what is a simple scenario which they go right out of their way to over dramatise and bleed to death for every column inch and airtime second they can extract from it ~ churning over and over exactly the same morsel of information.

It is a constant source of annoyance to me, and I'm not afraid to say so, even though it leads to silly people attempting a www armchair diagnosis of me.

"everyone" is right. The LibLab government already holds the whole population hostage - pray for yourselves. While you're at it, make a sincere apology to Pauline Hanson, it seems she was right all along. What happened to One Nation anyway ?

bugger me.  Some jerk on ABC TV just told the audience that this is not about the siege per se......................it is about how well our security lot respond to it!  Bloody hell!

you might make a better impression if you just once expressed even a smidgen of genuine concern for the hostages and victims of other events. To date, you have not yet once done so.  Even today, your only emotion is to hate/despise the media.  Is there anyone in your life you have the slightest regard for or even *love*?

People want to know what's happening. The media is covering it. That's what it is for.
