I have some “Lindau Finest China” plates, cuos, saucers etc.

Nothing too special: decoration is by fine grooves but it has two things going for it:

1. It is bone china; and

2. It is nice and thinly potted

Thickly potted crockery like your plates is disgusting, clumsy.

For everyday use no need to have hand painted decoration: I have some plates and soup plates not thickly potted and it has a cheerful pattern printed on it. Nothing wrong with using something like that for everyday use.

I had three Chinese rice bowls: bone china, nice and thinly potted, brightly decorated, lovely for eating the morning oat porridge or yoghurt out of. Alas—I broke one and the other one I can’t find! Couldn’t see similar bowls on eBay where I think I got them from initially. Will keep looking. Unlike most of my crockery/cutlery these weren’t a set but oh well.

Look for something like that. We eat with our eyes first that is why plates matter.

I don't drink.
We sometimes get a blast from the roaring 40s and it's terrible however
you sit in the middle of it all the time.
You get a bit of shelter from the West coast of Tassie but that's it.
Still - you will have a wonderful summer.
It can still snow where you are at Xmas.
