Air Asia flight missing

An Air Asia flight has reportedly gone missing en route from Indonesia to Singapore.

Indonesian news channel Metro TV reports the commercial flight lost contact with air traffic control shortly after take off this morning.

Transport Ministry official Hadi Mustofa said the A320 aircraft, flight number QZ 8501, lost contact with the Jakarta air traffic control tower at 6:17 a.m local time (9:17am AEDT), just over one hour before it was scheduled to land.

The plane lost contact somewhere between Kalimantan and Belitung island.

He said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact.

In fact Tony Fernandes sold shares in Tune Hotels -- and as far as I know that enterprise is not connected with Air Asia -- other than the fact that Fernandes has shares in both ventures.
