What?  Navratilova is hardly eye candy.  She was a talented player, as far as shielas go.  Or if you're talking about the image of kournikova, then yes, you're absolutely right.

Tennis is interesting, in that the shielas get paid equal amount to men for less work - it's one of very, very few real examples of "the wage gap."

Not sports that involve men in shorts, that's for sure.  A little too ghey for me.

But hey, if you like to spend your weekends watching sweaty men run around hugging each other, that's your call.

(Not that there's anything wrong with that)

Well if you're having sexual thoughts while watching sports, I'd remind you there are better ways to get your jollies.  Even a target catalogue would be more arousing.

Right on, Bro.... the REAL wage gap....

Past lover of mine is a deep feminist involved type who ran a website citing figures on incomes and stuff.  I did the calculations and first time around came up with a bonus offered to women of 12% based on HER figures....

Website vanished and since then I've published several calculations on INCOMES (wage rates are the rates at which you are paid and nowhere are women left short).

The ONLY difference in INCOMES overall is derived from the simple fact that women work an average of 32 hours a week and men 41 (2011 Census) = women work 78% of the hours that men do and as a result get 78% of the INCOME that men do....

Like the dumbass tennis thing - of course - they want the same pay for doing 78% of the hours.

The number of sets doesn't determine how many hours they are on court (there's no limit).

I've seen sets last less than 20 minutes, and I've seen others last almost 2 hours.

The longest women's match went for 6 and a half hours, and it was only two sets.

Not much over half as long as the longest mens match.  Equal pay for half the work - yep sounds about right for most women, but the tennis players don't have to hide it.

The number of sets is a pretty good indicator of how long a match will go on average.

The longest men's match? ..over 11 hours. That 6.5 hr. women's match is the only one in the top 50 of lengthy tennis matches.

I'd have to agree that the some of the women are nice eye candy, but that's supposedly not what they're there for.

I think you'll find that pic is Sharipova not Kournikova. I'd know that tush anywhere.

My point is: "The number of sets doesn't determine how many hours they are on court (there's no limit)."

Nobody says that women must stop playing after a certain amount of hours.

I go to the Hopman Cup every year, and I've seen the women's matches go longer than the men's matches many times.

Conversely, I also remember seeing one women's match go for about 35 minutes.

Women's tennis is far more entertaining than men's, so I don't mind them getting a break (pardon the pun).

Ticket sales suggest otherwise.

Link?

Apart from finals, you purchase a ticket to see the day's play.

At the Hopman Cup, for example, your ticket gets you a men's match, a women's match, and a double's match.

There's no provision for buying a ticket just for the men's match.

So, link?

How many is "many"?

One thing I noticed from sports betting was how lopsided womens tennis matches were.

Why, just today I chanced upon an article which illustrates it well:

Quote:
WORLD no. 1 Serena Williams called for a coffee to perk her up during a sluggish start to her Hopman Cup campaign in Perth.

And the trusted pick-me-up worked a treat for the Grand Slam queen. She took the match in three sets, 0-6 6-3 6-0 over Italian Flavia Pennetta.

89 minutes, including 20 minute warm up and coffee break.  Sounds like a tough battle between 2 players ranked in the top 12.

"But among the many happy gifts destiny bestowed in her cradle, it seems there was one from a malign fairy. It became manifest after 1997, the year in which she formed a relationship with Edouard Stern, a prominent member of an eminent ...ish banking family.

In 1999 she bore Stern’s love-child, Maximilien, though he was reluctant to acknowledge any role in the boy’s paternity. Five and a half months later, the baby boy died in hospital, having been in the care of a Bulgarian nanny hired by Stern. The nanny later disappeared, and the police found signs of the baby having been shaken, but it was concluded there was not enough evidence for any prosecution and Maximilien had died from natural causes.

In time Julia’s suspicion nevertheless strengthened that her child had been murdered."

I wish.

I buy season tickets for the Hopman Cup and the Australian Open most years.

If you think that you can buy separate tickets for men's and women's matches, you're sadly mistaken.

They're sold by the session:
