The bush fire season heralds the start of months of endless TV footage of bush fires.
Australia's audience appetite for endless video footage of bush fires is a phenomenon in itself.
This pyrophiliac fascination probably comes down to us from the Early Settler days.
Endless minutes at the start of the 6 O'Clock news bulletin that just go on and on and on ... with interviews, more video of burning trees, another interview, more footage of grass and trees burning ...
... on and on and on ....
After interminable minutes and a long commercial break at LAST the Channel Seven/Nine/Ten news team moves on to something a little more cerebral and newsworthy for us to contemplate ... yet another Footy Hero has 'glassed' someone in a nightclub late at night, or has bashed his girlfriend senseless, or has been caught pulling his penis out to piss on a parked Police Car.
and then they drag out the "Sign" person who stands in the background trying to steal the thunder by more and more outrageous hand and face gestures..
I can't stand it.. it makes me sick..
..........
I wrote to my own local paper here some years ago.. as soon as there was a fire, out came the BIG COLOURED pages of fires burning... of course.. here comes johnny on the spot reporter who tries to make it all about him/herself
they should be held accountable for inciting the lighting of more fires by giving the arsonist exactly what they want... they'd be masturbating all over those big coloured pictures the papers print page after page making these freaks famous (in their own minds)
its sick..
since my letter to the paper they have toned it right back... thank god..
