It's the end of the TV news season.

The bush fire season heralds the start of months of endless TV footage of bush fires.

Australia's audience appetite for endless video footage of bush fires is a phenomenon in itself.

This pyrophiliac fascination probably comes down to us from the Early Settler days.

Endless minutes at the start of the 6 O'Clock news bulletin that just go on and on and on ... with interviews, more video of burning trees, another interview, more footage of grass and trees burning ...

... on and on and on ....

After interminable minutes and a long commercial break at LAST the Channel Seven/Nine/Ten news team moves on to something a little more cerebral and newsworthy for us to contemplate ... yet another Footy Hero has 'glassed' someone in a nightclub late at night, or has bashed his girlfriend senseless, or has been caught pulling his penis out to piss on a parked Police Car.

well at least you have the Ibrahim clan.... to gush over...

Michael Ibrahim in hospital after being shot.. he has been paroled after serving time in jail for manslaughter...

and now we get updates on his recovery[shoulder wound]at each news bulletin  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes

the Ibrahim family are treated more like stars.,. than the gangsters they really are....I find that far more offensive than any bush fire reports,...

as it is I am amazed we havent found the answer to fighting bush fires???... water bombardment doesnt see to me to be the answer..

this is a terrible time for those who have lost everything herb....dont abuse those going through it.. abuse those who havent come up with the answer to preventing this from happening year in year out...

they know its going to happen and they stand by helpless to stop it......

Not attacking anyone, or doing anything out of the ordinary.

Just a shark, swimming in the ocean.

For 30 years, here in Perth, we've had Rick and Sue telling us about sharks swimming in the ocean.

They do stand by helpless cods, that's because no one has invented a way to prevent wild fires from flaring up.

People that choose to build/live in fire prone regions do so at their own risk, the same as those that build on the cliff face or too close to the foreshore.

I still feel sorry for them, but surely they know they know they are taking chances, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose......some in the Adelaide hills lost last year, some this time and everyone knows it will happen again if not this year, maybe the next......taking chances.

Fire and smoke plays a very important role in the propagation of many native plants.

I've seen the amazing regrowth a year or two after the fires have ripped through, the problem is building houses where they shouldn't be built in the first place.

I am HUGELY sympathetic to those poor souls whose house gets burned down and who lose live-stock and even family members.

And needless to say the guilt for these disasters reaches straight back to our State and federal politicians who allow the Greenies who sit on the nation's City County Councils to ban (at penalty of hefty fines) - the clearing by residents and farmers of ground fuel composed of fallen branches, trees, and autumn leaves.

The people at risk are not allowed to fell trees to a safe distance from their homes being endangered from fire.

Not allowed to clear the surrounding brush.

All because of wanky-poo Greenies.

But my BIGGEST beef is that there is no government financial assistance for people at risk of bush fires to build themselves a safe fire-and-heat-proof underground bunker system.

The idiots in Canberra will sent millions overseas in Foreign Aid every year .. but not a penny for the folks doing it tough in the bush while also facing the horrors of bush fires.

And then we have the usual Dirty Dozen bush-arsonists every year who get little more than a slap on the wrist and sent home.

It's simply not news.

Same with funerals. Someone dies and the news team rushes out to film the coffin being carried out of the church or into the cemetery... etc.

That's not news. That's what happens when people die.

What WOULD be news is if the body was just left where it was found, and people simply stepped over it as they went to work or did their shopping.

Monin lying on a slab unclaimed WAS news. I'll give them that.

Car accidents is another one. Two cars collide in the High street and the TV news teams swarm the area with cameras rolling. It's NOT news, you mórons!

But my all-time favourite is the weather report. We in Sydney experience an entire day of apocalyptic thunder storms with lightning, torrential rain and some hail ... and then the 6 o'clock news Weather Girl comes into camera view and tells us that Sydney has experienced ...
waaaaaaaait for it!

Within 10 metres of their home?! Are they kidding? Have you seen footage of fires travelling almost horizontally along the tops of gum trees - fuelled by eucalyptus oil and a driving wind?

10 metres!!

Indeed.

Moreover, cars drive through fences and into houses every day in suburban Perth.

Every single day.

That doesn't stop Rick and Sue from reporting it on the "News", though (and crossing to an on-the-spot reporter).

Sharks, cars through fences, footballers taking drugs, weather, and bush fires: that's our lot in Perth.

"without seeking approval"

With approval, they can clear more than 10 metres.

10 metres is merely a starting point.

I'm predicting that Rick and Sue will devote the first ten minutes of tonight's "News" bulletin to the weather:

"According to the Bureau of Meteorology, shortly after 1pm, temperatures soared to 44.2 degrees in the city - making it the third hottest January day since records began in 1876."

http://www.watoday.com.au/wa-news/perth-cooks-as-the-mercury-passes-40-degrees-2...

Complete with footage of people at the beach, and shoppers walking through the CBD's shopping malls.

Pathetic.

It's the same here in Sydney. News aimed to pander to the most retarded and uneducated among us.

Apparently this demographic must be in the majority otherwise it wouldn't make commercial sense for them to broadcast this very thin soup almost every day of the year like some Twilight Zone Groundhog Day.
