The life of Brian? How many artists and actors were slaughtered in the riots following the release of that movie?
I cant recall them depicting  jesus with his arse cheeks wide open asking to be buggered up the arse, can you?

Some of them are. Admittedly I do not always get French humour. Cods would you like us to ban it for not being funny? [/quote] if you laughed at any of those "cartoons" you have serious mental health issues. Its not humour, no matter how hard you try and portray it to be.

yes Fd, a funny picture of Muhammed. Not an extremly offensive cartoon.

What's your point Ian? Are you working on a guidebook for appeasing terrorists? They will let us draw funny cartoons of Muhammed, so long as it doesn't cross over into "extremely offensive"?

Have you looked? What about piss christ? I am sure you can far more equally offensive anti-Christian stuff. You don't hear about it because Christians don't go on murderous rampages over it. You only heard about Piss Christ because of the attempts to censor it. You only heard about Charlie Hebdo because of the Muslims slaughtering people in the name of Islam. You only heard about Salman Rushdie because of the attempts on his life. Same with the Danish cartoons, that dodgy internet video, and all the rest. If you are seriously arguing that people mock more Islam more than other religions you are deluded. Muslims simply kick up more of a fuss, because opposing freedom of speech is part and parcel of Islam.

Do you think it should be banned Ian?

I'm sure it will improve now.

Good point, FD, I'd never heard of Charlie Hebdo until 12 people were murdered.
What exactly were the terrorists hoping to achieve?

They want to scare people into self censorship. It is the pointy end of a broad campaign against freedom of speech, and liberty in general. For example, we also have the OIC (Muslim version of the G20) trying to get the UN to make blasphemy illegal. You get people to give up their rights individually at first, then follow it up with the law, and gradually strip away every right you can think of. Cods, Brian, Gandalf, HB, bb etc are supporting this effort by trying to convince people that self censorship is the appropriate response to these attacks.

There is a fundamental misunderstanding in their logic. They see freedom as a weakness, not a strength. They cannot comprehend how a society functions, and even grows strong, under such a social agreement of tolerance and division. It is the same misunderstanding that has played out over and over again over the last few centuries, and the few times in earlier history where principles of freedom and political inclusiveness have gained a foothold.

It is working to some extent. I think it is the reason Hollywood will not tackle Muhammed, despite the ample material there to work with.

ok.. now my part in all of this..... coward that I am..

I have said and still do....they should have stopped printing the cartoon after the death threats...

because I value life and do not think a stupid dumb unamusing but insulting to some cartoon was worth

12 peoples lives...

ok I am wrong.. you all think 12 lives were worth sticking it up to a group of madmen....I dont really care what you think....tell me it all been worth it.. now France is almost in lockdown...bomb threats. and now hacking

Quote:
Several French media websites have also gone down following a series of hacking incidents in the wake of recent terror attacks.

I would prefer people to go on with lives without this fear.. because I dont think these madmen have finished...and by the look of France.. neither do they think its over.

Often its very hard to decifer what exactly you are trying to say in your posts.

Thanks Annie - excellent article.
Although he did not mention the "suicide" of the French commissioner who was working on the case. He allegedly killed himself whilst working on his report. The Western press does not mention this. I guess in case it interferes with the official narrative. So much for upholding free speech.

sorry what are you having trouble with?..

I say the cartoons should have been withdrawn to save all those lives...

I do not see this as FREEDOM OF THE PRESS...it is a dumb ass rude insulting cartoon...

to Taunt a group of angry men who will KILL... just like the angry bees...

why torment them.??? Roll Eyes

and was the result worth it..

apparently mine enemies think those 17 lives were worth it.....as I say from the distance bwave..

what so hard to understand about that?..

I realise when they get a bit long winded... but then so do the others did you comment on them????????

not that I have seen...

andrei I am not defending what the extremist do or have done....I am just living in the real world... and not a James Bond one..

they say what they mean and they mean what they say...

I do not believe the deaths and what is the aftermath was worth the cartoon.......sorry if that offends you.

ask me personally about the cartoon... I couldnt careless not my taste at all.. would never buy the mag.......but I am not talking about ME I am talking about madmen who will carry out their threat..

and besides that I dont get any courage or thrill out of tormenting anyone.
