That's what happens when people are too scared to mock Islam.

Who's scared to mock Islam?

There's a difference between simply 'mocking' which can be funny sometimes and outright offensive abuse.

Should we be searching people for Shariah law at the border?

That would be about as successful as the 'war on terror'. I think we should stick to confiscating drinking water at the border, now that's a 100% successful operation.

Well, they are picking their noses behind his back in the second pic....

Did the Danish cartoons ridicule him?

http://pamelageller.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/danish_muslim_cartoons.jpg

How many were killed over these images?

the Danes didnt keep printing when they were asked to stop... as far as I know...

CHarlie was warned....

you see someone people take offence its the way they are...and as far as I know its their right to be offended..

if someone called you and Fn Idiot...you could be offended..

the next guy could fall about laughing....

we are not all the same.. but you have a right to be offended and if you landed one on the guy you could say you were provoked into doing it.. because he called you an Fn Idiot..AND YOU DIDNT LIKE IT...

we are not all the same I think thats great to be honest..

and its time we respected others.. we dont have to like them or love them.. but we should respect their feelings...

and I dont think that should be so hard to do..

Respect those who will kill you, shouting god is great, for what you writer or draw? No, bugger that. And I don't care what religion or other ideology drives them to murder over words or images.
That they happen to have a set of beliefs about Mohammed is not a limit In any way on others' right to express THEIR views . Being thin skinned murderous bullies is no argument.
They can be as offended as they like. But murdering others will not earn respect, only contempt, mockery, disgust.

you have funny ideas about WHAT is worth dying for...

how many people die in CHina every year because of their religious beliefs???....I dont hear of you and others on here fighting for their rights to FOS...

I take it if your neighbour was yelling abuse at your family and home....day in day out....

you would FIGHT for his right to do so???>...

just a Yes or No will do......

do not forget what you call insults may not be what I call insults...

so we cannot pick and choose... one hat must fit all.

The Koran has no injunction against depicting Mohammed. In fact, within Islam, there’s a rich tradition of painting the Prophet

Arent you claiming that all Muslims dance to the same tune on these matters? Good way to argue against your own point ,

soren doesnt seem to understand this is not about painting a pic of muhammad its about INSULTING HIM..

everyone has their own version of an INSULT...

You talkas if the bottom line was that Muslims cannot be expected to behave in a civilised manner, that they are unable to exercise self-control and will kill you if they find what you draw or write insulting to them and so we have to adjust our lives to this bottom line.

If we have to accept that they cannot be expected to curb their violent impulses over cartoons and books - why do we allow them to live among us?  We would clearly not accept this sort of barbaric behaviour from members of or own civilisation.

WHAT HAS YOU ACCEPTING THEIR BEHAVIOR GOT TO DO WITH ANYTHING...............

I DONT GET THAT....

THIS ISNT ABOUT YOU MAKING A SACRIFICE FOR GAWDS SAKE....DOES YOUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH REALLY RELY ON DRAWING OF CARTOONS...???? REALLY?....

ITS THE INSULT THAT CAUSES THE KILLING IN THIS CASE..

YOU DIDNT ANSWER MY NEIGHBOUR QUESTION SOREN.....

HERES ANOTHER BIT TO ADD TO IT...

HOW WOULD YOU BE IF YOUR NEIGHBOUR PAINTED INSULTS TO YOUR SON/DAUGHTER ON HIS HOUSE EVERY MORNING.....

WHAT IF HE SENT MEAN NASTY FLYERS TO THE SCHOOLS AND LETTERBOXED THEM ALL MAKING NASTY FUN OF YOUR CHILDREN?.....

WOULD YOU SAY  HE CAN EXERCISE HIS FREEDOM OF SPEECH......I HAVE TO SUCK IT UP...EVEN IF IT ISNT MY SENSE OF HUMOUR.

you really would have to agree he has every right to do what he does if you expect others to suck up what they find insulting..

You and cods have been arguing we should self censor because of the reaction from Muslims. Are you suggesting that this is not fear, but respect for their violent intolerance?

Quote:

Only in the mid of the censor. Everyone has a different sense of humour. What some find funny, others find deeply offensive.

Quote:

So what was all that crap about "That would only happen if my country had such lax security and regulations that allowed Sharia Law to infiltrate and replace our current laws." Can you explain this?

Quote:
everyone has their own version of an INSULT...

Muslims want you to adopt their version, and threaten you with death to encourage you. And you want to appease them.

Yes cods, that is what freedom of speech means. I am genuinely surprised you still do not understand this basic principle. If a religious or historical figure is placed beyond mockery or criticism, that is the end of free speech. It is all downhill from there - hence your unwillingness to suggest what the likely consequences of your spineless appeasement would be.

I've been saying everyone to their own, if you want to publish insulting cartoons of Muhammad, go for it, free will, free speech. Just leave me out of it, I've got better things to do.

Sharia Law doesn't come in via the airport, it's in the mind of the beholder, whoever, wherever they are. Sharia Law won't stand up in our courts because we have our own laws, unless we, as a country or government legislate for it and I don't see that happening.

Are you aware Facebook has agreed not to publish anything in Turkey that is deemed offensive to the "profit", including Charlie Hebdo cartoons.

Good luck with that one.

That's probably because Turkey is predominantly Muslim and Facebook put dollars before freedom of speech. I can't imagine many Turks wanting to have a giggle at an insulting Muslim cartoon.

Not really and no one in Turkey would either. They're meant to anger the Muslims not make them laugh. I should have said the Turks won't want to see them , not have a giggle.

I don't think any of the Danish or Charlie cartoons were insulting. They were at worst mocking and disrespectful. The really insulting cartoons were concocted by Mulsim clerics who circulated them in Muslim countries about 6 months after the Danish cartoons.
None of these are insulting, only disrespectful and critical. Mostly neither

...

The response to the Danish and Charlie cartoons is "the usual mixture of petulance and confected outrage".

The murders are despicable as is any argument for accommodating the sentiment that motivated the murders. Utterly despicable.
