A new Galaxy Poll has revealed surging support for Queensland Premier Campbell Newman's LNP Government after the first week of the election campaign.

New poll says Labor set for victory in Queensland

January 17, 2015

Labor is set for a shock state election win in Queensland just three years after it was brutalised at the ballot box, a new poll has reportedly revealed.

A Galaxy poll showed the were swings of up to 12 per cent against the Campbell Newman government in the state's southeast, News Corp has reported.

The poll suggests Labor leader Annastacia Palaszczuk could lead a hung Parliament after the election.

Predicted results were not much better for the Newman-led LNP across north Queensland, with Labor picking up extra votes that at the last election had gone to the Katter Australia Party.

Mr Newman's seat of Ashgrove has been tipped as one to watch, but the LNP has refused to publicly comment about the possibility of having to find a successor.

LNP
SEATS SET TO
TUMBLE
IN QUEENSLAND

The Newman Government looks set to lose many of the seats they won in the 2012 landslide election with Labor supporters that rejected the Bligh Government returning to the fold after three years under Campbell Newman.

These are the main findings of the latest Galaxy Poll conducted in the seats of Cairns, Barron River, Mulgrave, Greenslopes, Mundingburra, Thuringowa, Townsville and Pumicestone.

In all seats polled primary support for Labor has improved substantially since the last election and this has resulted in the following two party preferred swings;

Townsville 12.8%
Cairns 11.9%
Mundingburra 11.2%
Greenslopes 10.5%
Pumicestone 10.1%
Mulgrave 9.9%
Barron River 9.5%
Thuringowa 8.7%

If swings of this magnitude are observed at the ballot box then Labor would retain Mulgrave and win back Townsville, Cairns and Greenslopes. The Townsville seats of Mundingburra and Thuringowa would be close as would Barron River.

At this stage of the campaign, it is only in the seat of Pumicestone that the LNP sitting member, Lisa France, remains ahead.

ANNASTACIA Palaszczuk could become the state’s accidental premier with the LNP losing the battle against a massive protest vote in key seats across Queensland.

A Galaxy Poll conducted exclusively for The Courier-Mail has revealed double-digit swings against the Newman Government in the electorates of Pumicestone and Greenslopes.

Dozens of LNP seats in Brisbane and the surrounding region would be in peril if the seismic shift against the Government is replicated elsewhere.

The result will raise further questions over whether Premier Campbell Newman can secure Ashgrove and the potential for the LNP to win narrowly without him.

There is no doubt about that.....now, as of today.  But still, there is an eon before the fat lady performs and there will be a massive TV campaign to come.  Libs will outspend Labor by plenty.  I've seen the PUP TV campaign and it is very attractive.  Labor is sending the hat around social media as I type seeking donations to fund TV ads.

I really doubt that poll.

Labor will probably win an extra 25 seats.

The main show is still Newman's seat.

fat lady's not singing, and I've always predicted that libs would win QLD ... my comment was about Newscorp trying to make her sound like she doesn't deserve it ...

if she pulls off a miracle win, she deserves to be premier, accidental premier my arse

Well....she is being careful not to put a foot wrong.  But, as is always the case, she will not win......Newmann will lose if there is a change of Government.

I don't

... but I always remember it is a result based on
"If an election were held TODAY"

Voting intent - TODAY - is based SO MUCH MORE on the past 24 hour news cycle, than ever BEFORE

This result could EASILY swing back the other way - 24 hours later

PUP are also spending up on alternative internet media. I've seen a couple of Queensland election ads on Youtube, all of them PUP.

I wonder who Palmer stole money from THIS TIME for the campaign?

going from 50/50 to 52/48 is a surge in anyones book.  Even yours.

What a load of rubbish. That is not a surge. That small movement is less than the margin of error. If you knew anything at all about statistics you would know that.

we shall see, I guess.  Id hate to be a politician in Australia at the moment.  I don't think it is possible to keep voters happy.  They all want the boom and the endless rivers of welfare back again.  And new govts have about 6months to do it.

No.  All I/they want is no bullsh*t.  No promises made to win an election, and then broken before the seats are warm.  Simple.

Agreed with Aussie.

The Australian public is sending a message loud and clear - stop the bullshit and stop taking us for granted. Newman came into government no doubt assuming that he was safe for at least two terms. So he went about his first term agenda thinking he didn't have to worry at all about the polls.

He realised - quite possibly too late - that he was dead wrong.

Australian voters only want good news and promises of more goodies.  Try going to the election with a promise of a difficult economic reform or a new tax.  Howard discovered that with the GST where he started with a massive majority and lost almost all of it.  Gillard learned and so simply lied to get her reforms through.  Politicians of both stripes have learned via the 1993 election that honesty and transparency during election campaigns will be punished.  Since then, every government has broken multiple promises simply because it is the only way to get anything done.

Voters are greedy and stupid.  They will never vote for a party with a reform agenda, only one promising more dollars.

is that why all Newman is promising QLD is $100 for water bills, $100 for licenses, and that's about it?
