Footage has emerged online showing what appears to be the execution of a woman by al-Qaeda.

Her arms appear to be bound behind her back and she is ordered to kneel by a man in a black tunic. He delivers a speech declaring the woman has committed adultery before she is shot in the head. Crowds chant in the background.

The footage was obtained by the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and elicited condemnation from a supporter of the so called Islamic State.

The Daily Mail reports a man known as Abu Hammad wrote: “Jabhat al-Nusra kills a woman by shooting for adultery. Which Shariah is that?”

He is referring to Sharia (also known as Shariah law) which is the moral code and religious law linked to the Islamic faith. The comments are the latest in a series of clashes between the two extremist organisations over differing interpretations of Islam.

Islamic State’s response to the execution comes just days after the group posted a horrifying propaganda video purporting to show a young boy executing two men accused of working for Russian intelligence services.

The seven-and-a-half minute video was released by the group’s media arm Al Hayat on Tuesday and appears to have been shot late last year.

The vision shows two men being interrogated before being shot, but it has yet to be verified.

It opens with the interrogation of one of the men, Mameyev Jambulat Yesenjanovich, who says he is a Kazakh citizen.

He says he was recruited by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) to get close to an unnamed IS fighter.

The second man, Ashimov Sergey Nikolayavich, does not give his nationality but says he worked for the FSB in Russia previously and was tasked with killing an unnamed IS fighter.

Islamic State and al-Qaeda claimed responsibility for last week’s attacks on Charlie Hebdo headquarters and at the Jewish grocer in Paris.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) released a media statement claiming responsibility for the murders of 12 people by the Kouachi brothers at the satirical newspaper. Amedy Coulibaly, who killed four Jewish men, was a supporter of ISIS.
