I too do not see the point of those cartoons other than to commercially feed off the ignorant. To me, Freedom of speech should at least mean contructive criticism. But alas I should not let my view of what should be freedom of speech impinge on other people views of freedom of speech.
With Freedom of speech comes with individual responsibilities. Meaning the acknowledgement that whatever you say will have consequences. So, for example, if some kid come up to me, and say: green eyes are dumb. Then, he/she can expect me to retaliate by not talking to them. But thats just me, some nut head green eyed person may just turn around and kill him/her. The same goes with Charlie Hebdo, who published some really stupid rubbish of a revered figure, despite it was warned by extremists not to. So, as such, they had to expect consequences. Now, I fully condemn the action of killing people over some cartoon drawings, but hey, the world is full of nut heads.
ahhhhhhhhh at least one person understands what I have spent days saying...
its not about what is.. its about the consequences....
were they worth it????....
nut heads we have our share.. but I know we in OZ are safe we have all these people with their FREEDOM OF SPEECH banners.......
but only on my terms
preventing the baddies from getting to us... whew..
I wonder how many copies of the magazine have been ordered by our bwave members...
who will fight for a cartoon.
I will be expecting them to be selling never bow to a terrorist T/shirts next....its an honor to fight them..
... get behind me cods I will save you even though I think you are wrong...
fine......I will leave you to it then..
I'm with you guys too. I see exactly where you're coming from. I wonder if those people that were murdered would have kept going with the offensive cartoons if they had their time over again? They would have to be stupid if they did, knowing they're signing their death warrant just to make fun of some madman's God.
I'm pretty sure they would be happy to make fun of fat people or ranga's or religions with less fanatics. Unfortunately, no second chances.
Emma the t shirts.....I could imagine tens of thousands sold but never one to be spotted on the streets, they just wouldn't be caught dead in them.
