Visitor, members and being welcome

This is the second time I am using the phrase New kid on the Block.
Looking at the topics, they are extremely interesting and a variety of views are represented. Look closely and you will find, most are between two or three opposing sides, most and I mean most are from members that have been here since the dawning of Aquarius. the topics are open, we can all join in, I assume, but they possibly resent the intrusion as the are "Gold Members". Ok, not an issue.
Visitors, there are more visitors that members at most times, why, they, we, I won't bite, come join the discussions and make it that much more interesting.
I have over the years joined a few forums. Most, sorry all bar this one go out of there way to make you feel welcome before they attack you. They on mass send messages of greetings, telling you it's great to have you on board, (which is a lie) but on this forum, no such greetings, (bar one) they just jump on you and it's on for young and old. No holds barred. Ok, but possibly that's why so early in the evening so few members are online, everyone attacks everyone else. Two camps and a few others who tell it as it is. So come join the fun, but now at least you have some understanding of the rules.
NB: Note that many members here have a gizzzzillion posts, and you are on the first one, be brave, what's the worst that can happen! Shocked

Thanks, Yep, saw that newbies thread, however being new at the last entry was a REPLY button (not a new post button) silly me, I was not making a reply I was wanting to say hello. Took me a while to work that out later, must stop drinking during postings at night, lol.

I do not think that this is correct, the vast majority welcome new ideas and new people. The gold member is not seen as a symbol of status. As far as I can tell its only function is to limit some functions for the first 100 or so posts in order to discourage automated bots.

I think the primary reason some new members have a hard time is because of the prevalence of repeat abusers who come up with a different username in order to troll with greater effect.

It is too easy to assume that a new member is not really a new member.
