Scientists warn we've hit
'peak beard'
:
The more people grow facial hair, the less attractive it is

Wednesday 16 April 2014

After years in the cultural ascendancy, covering all manner of faces from Hollywood to hipster-ville, it seems that the beard’s day in the sun might finally be over.

A new study published in the journal Biology Letters suggests that we might have reached ‘peak beard’, with the overwhelming popularity of facial hair meaning that the beard is no longer unusual enough to be attractive.

Researchers from the University of New South Wales found that when test subjects were shown a succession of clean-shaven men followed by individuals sporting anything from light stubble to Charles Darwin-style face-clouds, it was the second group that rated more attractive.

However, the opposite was also true, and when the test subjects (comprising of 1,453 heterosexual or bisexual women and 213 heterosexual men) were shown a succession of photos of men with facial hear, it was the un-bearded individuals that were deemed better looking.

Novelty, it seems, is a key determinant in the attractiveness of beards.

... and not a moment too SOON
The ONLY recent pandemic worse than the beard - has been the "man bun"
( ... unless you were planning a career as a librarian)

Where did this beard fad come from ? It can't of been feminism because they hate men being men,

So I gotta ask, who started it ? I know some women like beards but only on guys they already find hot, so I don't think guys are growing them to attract women

but at the same time most guys spend their lives trying to please women and growing a beard jeopardises that !

so what do they get out of it ? I don't get it ?

I grew a beard before I was aware it was a fad. I've been growing it and cutting it, on and off, these past 2/3 years and as far as I know the fads only started recently

anyway i'm just really confused,  I've always liked and admired beards, I don't know if that's weird for a straight guy ? but I've always thought they looked cool ! I was so happy when I matured enough to grow my facial hair, I love it !

sorry if people get offended by opening comments but come on you have to admit most guys are whipped Smiley

I'm also curious is their a bald trend going on atm ? because it's summer and im pretty much done with my hair !, I mean I love it, I have beautiful hair, it's just not the right time of year to have a ''blanket'' on you're head ! beard sure, hair no !!!!!!

^^^^^My beards pretty much max'ed out right now,

My beard grows really bushy, It doesn't seem to grow down, It's covers my chin and seems to stop 3/4 inchs under, I have trimmed it from time to time aswell, so theirs also that

work hasn't said anything about it and i'd like it too stay that way,

so it all works out, It's funny though because it's gingy and my mates like to make jokes about it, but the jokes on them, I bet on a horse called ''red beard'' and it won, Smiley

but too answer you're question, my beard hasn't got noticeably hot or itchy when im working, so that's why i'm not getting rid of it,  My hair on the other hand is long and gets in the way, I need to get my hair cut either way and I figure if im going to cut my hair short why not go all out ? it'll grow back soon enough and in the mean time ill be bald in the hottest part of summer and you're head is a huge heat source, so it should work out pretty well, I wont be doing this next summer though,

I like my hair, this is simply a once of thing I've never been bald nor have I had short hair in years, so the change will be nice

I started growing a beard when 20yo, had it for years then shaved off one night (decision out of the blue).  Next morning, number 1 son (2 years old then) came into the bedroom and screamed his tummy out - Where is Daddy!!!.  Stopped shaving immediately and have had this one now for decades - am 62 now.

Was in the Navy for 45 years, so a beard was the norm, I shave down below now though, makes it look bigger Cool

Hate beards - I get a rash under them and under any hairy spot... unless I am very careful about my soap etc.

Look all right - though I've always wondered about men with moustaches..... always seemed seedy to me...

in the past if I get any length in facial hair I get a rash, itch and even a bit flaky...

but then I found Dermaveen products and is one of the reasons im giving a beard a go again...

im also using Beard oils to keep it soft and in good condition as well as the skin under it... im trying four types of oil at the moment...

You have an extremely fertile mind. Your beard should be down to your ankles in no time.
