To answer your point.

Borrowing is akin to a tax increase as it is the tax-payer alone that pays the debt & interest off.

Selling an asset is akin to a tax cut as additional tax-payer funds are not required for the purchase, nor to pay ongoing interest bills and the impact of an asset sale is shared equally and not just on the taxpayer alone.

As the Coalition (compared to Labor) are the party more atuned to smaller Government and reduced taxation it is commonsensical for it to prefer asset sales to borrowings.

As the Coalition (compared to Labor) are the party more atuned to smaller Government and reduced taxation

So the rhetoric goes but unfortunately the facts fail to support the dogma:

Doctors tax, Increase the GST, create the GST, new petrol tax and then you have examples like the Howard government being one of the biggest governments and highest spending in our records with the Abbott mob following the same standard.

Maybe there was a time when this rhetoric was true however that time is long gone.

What doctor's tax, what increase in the GST? What 'new' petrol tax?

That's a lefty porky pie.

The Howard Govt collected the most tax revenues because it presided over a low unemployment rate and high business profitablility economy and was smart enough to tax consumption.  The Howard Govt also provided the biggest income tax decreases since federation.

Increasing costs of living via privatisation and other rorts is also akin to a tax rise..... the end user is paying more for every service.....  same argument as borrowing is a tax hike.....

Howard govt fanned a boom. Now households are highly indebted and we cannot afford to keep all the tax cuts and pork still in the Budget.

The GST was just a wealth transfer from low incomes to high incomes—the consumption tax now is depressing spending—consumption! Smart  Cheesy

Funny thing about a consumption tax like the GST is that it is a consumption tax.

What that in fact means is that when we have a downturn and consumption drops so does the income from the tax.

Funny that we have a tax that will deliver a windfall when we don't need it but leave us stranded when things get tough.

The tax decreases that benefited the higher income earners while the low paid were allowed to fall further behind.

And they also implemented the biggest tax grab since federation - The GST.

Telstra? Looks like the Libs will run out the MTM nonsense, $40Bn worth, then FTTH will need to be run out immediately, another $40Bn. Love the low low low charges from Telstra too, love to see them but no sign so far.

Newman is in strife in Quinceland because the electorate wants him to stop with the privatisations already.
