I dont see the issue, they have been offered resettlement in PNG, why is this so abhorrent to these alleged refugees?

Re Armchair:

Go and live with the detainees and get locked up for say 3 weeks.  And then come back to make your mind up.   It is all SO easy for you to make up a poll based on the suffering of other people.  Will your actions go no lower?

They come here illegally.
Are given food, shelter, health care gratis.

Now riot and go on hunger strikes for some reason.

Chuck them back to whence they came.

the rioters themselves say it is about re settlement issues. The detention centres need to be somewhere.

Incorrect.

Seeking asylum, in a boat, without a passport or visa in not illegal.

You have been misinformed.

Straw man
A straw man is a common type of argument and is an informal fallacy based on the misrepresentation of an opponent's argument.[1] To be successful, a straw man argument requires that the audience be ignorant or uninformed of the original argument.

The so-called typical "attacking a straw man" argument creates the illusion of having completely refuted or defeated an opponent's proposition by covertly replacing it with a different proposition (i.e., "stand up a straw man") and then to refute or defeat that false argument ("knock down a straw man") instead of the original proposition.[2][3]

This technique has been used throughout history in polemical debate, particularly in arguments about highly charged emotional issues where a fiery, entertaining "battle" and the defeat of an "enemy" may be more valued than critical thinking or understanding both sides of the issue.

Not happy with Rudd's policy then?

No, not at all.

Are you?

Only good thing he did.

Why do you think it's a good thing?

The less uninvited illegals, browns, blacks and muslims entering Australia the better.... Wink

Why do you think it isn't?

I agree: I don't want illegals in the country.

Asylum seekers aren't illegals though.

Moreover, the colour of an asylum seekers' skin, or their religion, doesn't bother me in the slightest.

So, why are you against the humane treatment of asylum seekers?

Yes, I just put the illegal bit in for you and the UN, who think they are illegal entrants. The verdict is in don’t you know!!

Yes, we need to crack down on illegal visa over staying for sure.

I don’t care if it bothers you.

If it’s good enough for Kevin O’Lemon and the ALP, then it’s good enough for me.

The UN convention on refugees is out dated document that needs to be rescinded.

incorrect, their entry remains illegal regardless of asylum seeking status. The law is quite clear on this point, anyone who enters Australia without a valid visa does so ilegally.

Because of what happened to other refugees in PNG.
