I think they prefer to stay out of the limelight - embarrassing. They often just want to be 'normal' again as in Lawrence of Arabia.. often very difficult to do. the general feeling is "Now that it's all over I can go home and just be myself again".

Often doesn't work, sadly, and a situation not helped by the refusal of many even in the armed forces to accept that there are many real problems for Veterans. The CMS - a woman rear admiral - said that PTSD was no more prevalent among Afghanistan and Iraq Veterans than the 'normal' service community. Pure refusal to see what is plain in the eyes of those men and the occasional woman.

I think Billy Sing just wanted to fade away - became a monumental drunk.

We don't care about being called "Australian", because we are always "Australian Chinese" or sometimes we are "Chinese Australians". Being Australian is like a flag of convenience.

We are special and we will kill millions of our own citizens, exploit massive populations and then come to your shores with suitcases of cash to buy property, impose our values upon you that is not even care about being part of your society, except for the free English lessons when we attend your schools and cheap universities. We never cheat, and we have the world's best hygiene and food hygiene.

We are so good, we have a 1990s Soviet hulk that we painted, towed out to sea and Tell Our People is an aircraft carrier, even though it has no planes. We have reached this Glorious Achievement exactly 95 years after Japan (they are dogs) built the world's first working, strategically useful aircraft carrier in 1920. But because we are Chinese we are better.

We are Chinese - we are strong. Australian citizenship is nothing more than a flag of convenience for us. We are not Australian, but rather we are Chinese Australian or Australian Chinese or just Chinese, when and where it suits us to be.
