Money paid in taxes is used by the government to provide services through the bureaucracy staffed by public servants.
this is an inefficient way to improve peoples lives.

As our low taxing Asian neighbours have shown, with much bigger boosts in growth, real wages and productivity, the private sector will always outperform the government sector .

That's strange, dear. I keep hearing how big a shithole our neighbours are.

Mind you, the people who keep saying that have never actually visited them.

If they did, they'd find out how big a shithole they all are.

We don't really have a public sector anymore. Canberra has nothing left to privatise. What Canberra does is fund private services, along with the states.

The relative efficiency of private/public services depends on the service. Some services are best kept in government hands. There are no private postal services, for example.

Government has a big role in all our neighbouring countries - with the exception, perhaps, of the Philippines.

Its not free. Its paid for by all of us because education is the lifeblood of a community and its the most cost effective way. Tell you what sparky. I don't like the $$$ they make me pay on so called "security" and so called defence and so called border security and handouts to business (esp big business). What say we all get to opt out of paying for that as well. Or would you rather live in a community where we all pull together instead of live like dog eat dog animals in the jungle.

Some people choose to pay per semester up front to take advantage of the discount. (Of course you know all about that being a male gyncelogist/taxi driver from Pakistan.) Spasticus is under the impression that democracy means that tax payers are forbidden from having an opinion in how their elected representatives spend tax revenue. Fascinating!

it is the duty of all citizens to pay as little tax as possible, so as to make the influence of Canberra as small as possible.

I'm all for the citizens pooling funds and helping out the local community.
local community building at the grass roots is what democracy should be all about.

this idea that Qld and WA should send a train load of silver to Canberra so they can send a Ute full of goodies back to us , is BS.

starve the beast.

every cent a person in a regional centre renders unto the feds is one less cent available to do real good for real Australians in real Australian communities.

Canberra should be turned back into a merino farm.

the people of Sydney are dynamic and good problem solvers. any problems with running the country can be run out of North Sydney.
when they have a solution (wont take them long as they are problem solving, go-getters), they can run down to Kirribilli, wake the PM and he can sign off on it.

no-one is seriously arguing that the tax payer gets good value for money from Canberra.

do tell me that no one is THAT out of touch.
