Can one of the mods make this thread permanent.

Manufactured from real Australian Rosellas.

Previously owned by Unilever and a number of others until 2013.

Quote:
The Rosella brand was founded in Australia in 1895 as the Rosella Preserving & Manufacturing Co.. Rosella has had a number of owners including a 40 year period where it was owned by Unilever. The current owner is Sabrands Australia which acquired the brand in April 2013.

Receivership and revival

In December 2012, the then current owner of Rosella, Gourmet Food Holdings and Waterwheel, was placed into receivership.[6] After unsuccessful attempts to sell the company, it was announced in early March 2013, that the company would be closed down, and that the receivers were looking at selling the Rosella brand to a new owner.[7]

In April 2013,[8] Sabrands Australia, a private family company and the company behind Sunraysia fruit juice, purchased the Rosella brand and is manufacturing sauces, soups, chutneys and relishes in Victoria.

Yes now owned by Dan Pressa of Sunraysia prune juice fame. He is being interviewed on the radio at the moment as part of a regular segment of Australia made on 3AW radio.

Thanks for the heads up re: Rosella

Will keep an eye out for it.  If our useless local supermarket has it, I'll buy it plus other of their products if possible

When the contaminated berry thing was on, I posted about most brands of frozen foods wearing the 'packed in NZ' (actually Chinese) claim and forwarded information I'd picked up in the msm about Edgells and Birds Eye claiming to be the last of the grown-in-Oz suppliers

Discovered the other day that some Edgells and Birds Eye frozen foods are labelled, 'contains local and imported'

Some are 'grown in Australia-packed in Australia'

so have to check the packets each time to see what you're getting

Spaghetti and similar sauces are from all over the place as I discovered today.  Some brands are marked 'China', even though they're well-known and trusted brands.  Others are 'imported and local' ingredients.  Five Brothers I think was one of the few made in Oz from Australian produce.  Too many brands to keep in memory, so again a matter of checking labels each time you buy because the way things are moving, things are subject to change all the time

When it comes to tomatoes, 'Made in Italy' to me now means most likely Chinese pulps and pastes but packaged in Italy so no thanks

and will have to try harder to get to the bottom of olive oils because last I read, even analysts in Oz labs claimed they 'hadn't a clue' what many of the 'Made in Italy' and Spainish olive oils contain or even are

bought Australian olive oil a few times to be sure it wasn't adulterated engine oil from China, but the Aussie olive oil seemed to us to lack taste almost entirely and didn't have the distinctive olive oil scent.  Might look for grown in oz, bottled in Oz grape oil and see what that's like

Anyway, at least we have Rosella tomato sauce, so thanks for that Smiley
