Mr Baird Will You Still Be Premier In A Weeks Time

The major parties will step up TV advertising blitzes on Sunday night, in the final stretch of the campaign before an electronic media blackout on Wednesday.

A new Labor attack ad featuring Tony Abbott and Premier Mike Baird surfing together, under the tagline 'Liberal Choices Hurt', will attempt to "inflict Liberal brand damage", a Labor Party insider said.   Smiley

Coinciding with the Liberals' campaign launch on Sunday, where Mr Abbott will speak, the television commercial will "add another string to the bow" of Labor's main attack on electricity privatisation, by accusing the Liberal Party of cuts to schools and TAFE.

Echoing the tactics used by Labor in the recent Victorian and Queensland elections, nurses in uniform, TAFE protesters and other unions will attend a Labor rally in Burwood on Sunday.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, who wrote to all NSW Labor members on Friday saying "we can do it again", will address the rally and compare the NSW election to the contest he won four months ago.   Smiley

The Liberal Party traditionally unleashes its biggest advertising spend in the final week of the campaign, and insiders promised there would be "additional material".

But Liberal insiders said the party wouldn't shift its tone in the face of the aggressive Labor attack, from the message that Mike Baird was a decent bloke who has the funding to deliver his plan.

Between Thursday and the election, the push will shift to direct marketing, phone calls, door knocking and social media.

Liberal insiders said it was a tight election, and all battleground seats were in play.

Labor believes it is doing well outside Sydney, and in the inner city, but Mr Baird's strength is western Sydney.

Labor has conceded that Penrith and Mulgoa are out of reach, but Strathfield, Prospect and Londonderry will be a tough fight in the swing.

Baird well ahead in latest poll: 54-46. So the answer is a resounding yes.

Ohhh how sweet it would be if Baird went down.  The ting is I think a lot of voters in NSW are cluey enough to know that if they really want baird they can vote for LNP in the lower house and block his privatisation plans in the upper house.  In any case an interesting election coming up

Coinciding with the Liberals' campaign launch on Sunday

The Liberals are launching their campaign just six days before the election. Some of the other parties also leave the launch until late.

This is not good for two reasons.

Firstly, some people have already voted without the benefit of seeing the policies announced at the launch.

Secondly, until they do launch their campaign, they are spending taxpayers' funds on the campaign, but after the launch they are spending the party's funds. Snouts in the trough: guzzle, guzzle, guzzle.

It's another reason why we need to reform political donations and campaign rules.

A simple way to reform this - the campaign begins at a fixed date for all parties regardless of the actual launch date for the campaign. A good date would be in the week before pre-poll voting opens.

the topic in this thread  http://www.ozpolitic.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1426976180 has the potential to really impact on the libs changes in a negative way. Libs have been manipulating what is supposedly independent reports and having them doctoroed to suit their own agenda.

If labor play it right they might even pull a bigger rabbit out of the hat then they did in Qld.

I wasn't aware of this ... rules should be changed to party funds from the moment an election is called.

Only recent poll is a Sunday Telegraph (hence suss) report on a Galaxy poll. That poll was of just 810 people, just not reliable enough statistically. It also matters how preferences were distributed, according to the last poll or respondent allocated.

Dunno if greens and other minors are advocating “fill in all the numbers” like in Qld? Like to know—anybody?

Sadly, because I oppose privatisation and support upgrading and expanding rail services, I believe they will win next weekend.

But, that said, I do hope Labor and/or the Greens give them one HELL of a fright.

Me? I'll be numbering all the boxes, and putting the Libs last, because that's exactly where they put me.

You can blame Paul Keating for this trend.  It started after the 1993 election where all parties discovered that being open , honest and expansive with the voters will only ever backfire.  And since then, only the GST election has ever been so and that nearly ended in tears also.  No party wishing to win will ever give voters time to scrutinise their policies for too long.
