The trouble with letting him out is that a guy like that needs 24 hour surveillance and that costs a stack of money. Cheaper to keep him in prison pending psychiatric evaluation. Why was he given bail? It looks like we're going down the same track as the Sydney cafe bomber whatshisname.

He should be arrested & held in custody as it's
too dangerous to let this animal loose.

It's in the government's best interests to let him loose and hope that he causes problems.

A frightened population is an easy-to-control population (and they're more likely to vote for the incumbent government).

You have a point.

No terrorists = no fear = no need for governments to protect us.

A little chaos goes a long way in keeping governments in power.

Of course, that piece fits perfectly in the 'war on terrorism' jigsaw puzzle.....and they all cried.............oh no! another terrorist attack.

So we have a fairly nasty character.
We have a magistrate let him loose.

And Greg and Pansi think that Tony Abbott has masterminded the whole scenario.

How so, with the separation of state and judiciary?
Thoughts?? Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

I remember the separation of state and judiciary during the Newman years.

so greg, let me get this straight.
you stated that this man was released on bail BECAUSE it suits the government to have terrorist acts and fear in the community.

1  you seem to be admitting he may perform a terrorist act
2 you seem to be implying that the government (federal) influenced a state magistrate in Labor Victoria.

I find the second claim quite odd.

I like muslims and have been to a mosque.
I like Christians and sometimes go to the local uniting church and catch up (more a social outing).
I prefer people who have some philosophy or creed they live their lives by to the "rudderless ships " of aetheism and socialism.
But I do think Christians and Muslims need to have zero tolerance of the various
bad eggs   in their ranks and remove them forth with.
it really is a case of one bad apple ruining the whole barrel.

there would be no problems with Christianity and islam in the eyes of the public if the leaders iof the mosques or the churches came out and said
"this bloke is not allowed in our mosque and if he turns up we will have security throw him out"

win/win

No.

I said: "It's in the government's best interests to let him loose and hope that he causes problems."

I didn't say that's what has actually happened (but if it is, I'm not surprised in the least).

Moreover, it most certainly does suit the government to have terrorist acts and fear in the community.

This is 'Governing The Masses 101' - A frightened population is an easy-to-control population.

1. I'm not sure why you use the term "admitting".  He seems to be an absolute nut-job who is perfectly capable of performing an act of terror in the community.

2. As, I said before, I didn't say that was what has actually happened.  However, the prospect of federal governments having an influence on state magistrates is perfectly plausible.

now now John,
greg said that the government "let him loose" to help their polling figures.
where did anyone from the right ever say that Gillard
"got the magistrate to let thommo off"

we of the right may not like thommo , but I never recall anyone saying that the federal government had a lever to pull to affect what a magistrate would do.

yet greg and pansi say that this guy was released because Abbott wanted him released.

chalk and cheese and a bizarre idea. Wink

Governments best interest to let him loose.

if I understand verbs and adverbs, this relates the verb (doing word) "let loose" to the noun "government"

you are saying the government "let him loose"
this is clearly incorrect.
