If & when a new Labor govt comes to power, the president of the ACTU will no doubt have a big say in its policies. Don't they always?
This is what the SMH reported about Ged Kearney a couple of days ago:
"Australia's refugee policy is a national shame, the country's top union official has told a rally in Sydney.
About 2000 people attended the "welcome refugees" rally in inner Sydney on Sunday, demanding the closure of offshore detention centres on Manus Island and Nauru.
"Just think about those three small words – stop the boats – never before can I think of three small words that have left such a permanent and dreadful scar on our national psyche," Australian Council of Trade Unions president Ged Kearney said.
"They've caused so much pain, so much misery, so much indignity, so much injustice," Ms Kearney said.
"They have filled . . . this country with lies, with misinformation, and, I'm sad to say, with shame. Absolute shame."
This leaves me with little doubt that as soon as Labor gets the nod from the G-G, or even before that, the message will go out and the never ending convoy of alien-culture migrants will be under way again. After all the heavy lifting by Jason Morrison, the vandals will again put us on a par with the weak, left-minded hotchpotch of European countries that do nothing to confront what is a virtual invasion.
Once again our streets will be flooded with out-of-place, out-of-time Somalis, Afghans, Syrians, Iraqis and god knows what else. And Labor and its groupies will sit back, sip their champagne and lattes, and congratulate themselves on being the great humanitarians come to save the world.
