Why bring in more unskilled people then.

You just don't understand the whole asylum seeking/refugee thing, do you?

See I do. It's you who doesn't. You believe sob stories and I don't. They want to live in Australia and there's no other way to get out here but push their way in. It's forced migration .

When they were forcing their way in, Homo was dropping the soap.
All the while you were getting honour raped by extended members of your Pakistani family in the back of a clapped out Econovan down by the goat enclosure. Grin Grin Grin Grin

The majority of asylum seekers are granted refugee status.

This is not opinion - it's an indisputable fact.

So, knowing that fact, how can you substantiate your claim?

But when Homo posts four chuckles in a row, we know that he is deeply, deeply unhappy.

Many are on bridging visas and could be sent home anytime. Some they don't know who they are and some had their stories believed without any proof. The aimed for the best country and not the closest salvation. That's what doesn't sit well with people. We've talked about this 1,000 times. Let it go.

It's perfectly legal, though.

Wouldn't you do the same?  I certainly would.

How can you condemn someone for (legally) striving for the very best that life can offer?

Good morning all.
Well that was a good day's work, stirring up the prospect of Labor getting its hands on the border controls again . . . or should that be "hands off".

No doubt Mzzz Kearney's rant will not have gone unnoticed in the Abbott camp and will be given air at the appropriate time.

Asylum seekers are predominantly highly skilled and middle class.

You lot should know - when you're not bitching about lowly inferior tinted scum "flooding our streets", you're bitching about these rich privileged 'queue jumpers' - using their wealth to jump ahead of genuine refugees.

Or had you forgotten that meme?

If Labor get back in and start people smuggling back up who's going to pay for it? Aren't we in an economic downturn?

Good point, Homo. By Longy’s calculation, 43,000 of them are on the dole. As you know, the dole’s about $400 a fortnight. That adds up to $8,600,000 a week, can you believe it? And this excludes the burden it has on us as a society for having to share our streets with these people.

Can you imagine what it would be like if Labor gets in and more flood in? It’s unthinkable.

Actually, Longy should be able to work this out with his maths.
There's other costs as well Ms Knowledge. Running camps, border protection costs (Navy) to Nauru (security people etc). Paying them the dole  is just one part of it. I already share the streets with the people so it aint any sweat of my sack.

That’s right, Homo. You live in Western Sydney, unlike all those no-nothing Greens. You already share your streets with these people, you shouldn’t be forced to.share your testicle sweat with them as well.

Do you think these people will cost as much as the cash we give to the Aborigines?
Both are expensive. Most of the people coming out in the boats are unemployable. Same with many aborigines.

So, they're not "taking our jobs"?

They are unskilled and  can't read, write and speak English properly.

Ah.

Left out willing to work long hours for little pay !

It makes a big difference.

We’ve moved on from that one, G. We’re onto importing tinted goatherders to put on Centrelink benefits.

This is the new meme, and we’re sticking to it.

Not this current crop of asylum seekers, these people arent vietnamese villagers , as Gandalf points out they are already priveleged in their own society before their economic propelled journey to australia, exactly the type of migrant we do not need into this country. Some like Greggary believe that its better to allow priveleged wealthy people buy their way into Australia and that the ones in the refugee camps , the genuine refugees can get stuffed. Bugger the poor people is the mantra from the pro asylum crowd.

Just because you are (relatively) rich, doesn't mean you can't be a genuine refugee. People who rattle the feathers of despotic regimes and put their lives in danger in the process tend to be educated people with some degree of privilege. If a particular minority is being persecuted - say the Hazaras in Afghanistan and Pakistan - the first targets will be the privileged classes who have the wealth and influence to potentially thwart attacks against their people.

And there is nothing illegal - or illegitimate - about using your wealth to seek safety from a genuine threat.

A threatened life is a threatened life.

More astounding ignorance.

The amount of money one has is completely irrelevant when it comes to refugee status.  A multi-billionaire can be a refugee.

Why is it that the retarded right all seem to "think" that in order to be a refugee, one must be poor?

Is that written in section 61 of the Migration Act?   Grin

Also, using right-tard logic, these are the exact people we should be welcoming - smart, brave, innovative, resourceful - the sort of people that help make a country great.

Exactly!

I guess in the eyes of bigots, being smart, brave, innovative & resourceful accounts for nothing, if you're brown and/or Muslim.

Seriously though, why is it that so many people believe that in order to be a "genuine" refugee, you must be poor.

Where does that misconception come from?
