Youre aware of being 'you' but not the next person

I've transferred this subject here because there's zero moderating on the Board.

Why is this so?

I can only see this question as random questioning of why we are aware of our selves, but we are not aware of other people's awareness. As someone pointed out, there's no connective cells with other people. Therefore, we can't be aware of what other people perceive, until there is some kind of osmosis effect that can come between two separate entities.

Thanks for having a go, Rocky.

I don't know the answer to this.

It's nothing to do with existentialism, or spiritualism etc. It's not a branch of philosophy either.

But it does seem to answer for me why we are destined always to be a sentient being of some sort of living creature for as long as there is life in the universe.

'Herbert' one day dies. Dead and buried. But then at some time after that, 'i' ~ whatever life-form that is ~  will become aware of being alive and conscience of its environment.

There will be absolutely no thread between 'Herbert' who died and this new consciousness ~ except that 'Herbert's death created a vacancy for 'me' to become someone/ something else.

I don't see how you have any basis for the assumptions in your claim that I have highlighted. Confronting your own mortality can be a daunting thing but necessary if you're going to ask the kind of questions you're asking.

It does weight on my mind what happens when you die, and if that is it. But I have had the unfortunate experience of nearly dying. That moment you think in hindsight that you were dead is the moment you can recall your soul lifting from the bed. Some doctors said that it was low blood pressure experience. But I recall that the emergency personnel were 5 seconds away from giving me the defibrillator, before I recovered.

I have decided that I believe that the universe is cyclical. The big bang explosion of the universe, the development, the human existence, the human extinction, the universe collapse. Then it all starts again. The universe life cycle over 15 billion years. I also believe that I'm destined to relive this life again, but only differently, due to variations in how things have come about. Kind of like an episode of "Sliders" where parallel worlds exist.

And I don't mind the concept of people living some already existent other person's life. Sometimes I wonder if I have lived someone else's life in some kind of universe recycling. Or perhaps there is some kind of breath that our souls take for 15 billion years. Maybe our souls need a break for a while where we get to renew our zest for life. I would imagine that after living 80 or more years, we need to psychologically refresh and purge our 'souls' of the registered feelings and nuances we have experienced in life. Ergo, we get to a stage where we have lost our connection with what was like living, and get reborn in a new or perhaps our former selves to redo as much as we like until we get things right.

Well I certainly didn't expect to see this here.  It appears you have stumbled upon the philosophical idea of Solipsism

Basically, how can you be completely certain that everything outside of your own experience is even real.  Ultimately though, such a thing can't be confirmed or denied as far as I am aware.
