"A lot of the attacks that are happening and of course what's happening in the Middle East ... is branded as Islamic," she said.

"I think it's important for Muslims to come out and say 'this isn't in my name, this isn't what Islam is about, I am against it and they don't have my allegiance, they don't have my support'.

"I think that sends a very clear message also to people that think that there is broad support for the Islamic state.

"I think it's really important for Muslims to speak out and say 'no, not in my name'."

The situation in Iraq is the direct result of the Bush Admin's campaign to deflect public outrage at the 9-11 attack away from his friends in Saudi Arabia and militant Islam, while at the same time getting their hands on Iraqi oil. This policy in no way changes the fact that Islam declared war on the West in 1990s.

But to return to the OP, I do not believe Dr Aly is a Muslim. She is using her ethnic origin to appear to align herself with Muslims. She came to Australia when she was two years old. She went to the American university in Cairo for a few years. If she does believe in Mohammed and the Koran over all other authorities, then her career is a sham.
