Yes, a thinker.

You should try it some time.

It's what we do out here in "real Australia".

i used to quite like Waleed, but he has become a bit full of his own self importance.
i find the project is just a channel 10 version of an ABC current affairs show , except the presenters have all got collagen, botox and prettier clothing.

Waleed really needs to rally the muslim community to reach out to "real australia".  He is in a position to do a lot of good.
He could organise a free kebab day and arabic cooking festival and form some good links in the community.
There could be belly dancing etc etc.
Camel rides for the kids.
Instead of always trying to make "real australia" feel bad about itself (which will only harden attitudes against islam) he could be building really good community bonds.

the greeks, italians, chinese, vietnamese and taiwanese communities all have massive food festivals that i always took the kids too.  this is good.

I am yet to see one from islam.  maybe they dont have many nice dishes

Yes, dear, but you don't live in my multicultural ghetto where there's a free barbecue with balloons for the kids every year to celebrate Eid.

How often do you host festivals?

this is good,  some people get it.
i heard about a seikh in darwin who was abused as a taxi driver by nasty bogans.
He started up a weekly seikh cook up down at the waterfront and now 100's attend, he is integrated, the darwin people would probably belt any bogan who vilified a seikh.

hearts and minds K.

How often has waaleed been on the telly promoting these sort of good news stories.
Very rarely i suspect.

You suspect, eh?

How often have you watched the Project, dear?

I’m curious.

If every muslim would spend a month doing what the seikh taxi driver did, the whole issue would go away and waaled would be out of a job.

i suspect waleed doesnt want to solve the problem any more than abbott wants to solve the problem.

Yet again, it will be up to people at a community level to solve this problem. And that is usually the case. Dont expect the media or politicians to be part of the solution when they all have so much invested in keeping the problem going

Mr A Scoot, do you not see an insidious and real creep by this Government into secrecy, cover up, obfuscation and harsh hands on control of
any
criticism, or failure to blindly support 'Team Australia'.....i.e. Abbott?  Do you not see it?  It is no accident.  It is a very determined, and slow closing of a vice, and if this keeps up, hello, Nazi Australia Mark 1.

It's crystal clear to me, and if an ALP Government was doing this sheet, I would be publicly outraged!

There's only one answer to these new silencing laws that allows sexual and other abuses in detention centres to be covered up........retaliation by the carers.

Australia is the guardians of these people and as Australians we all must be truthful and transparent, the truth must be told loud and clear whatever the penalties.

The open letter by prominent people was a start.

If one person is prosecuted we must flood the internet with repeats of the story.

It will happen, stupid laws are meant to be broken.

Will Tony dumb dumb prosecute 10,000 people?

Seriously people, the best you have is to nastily vilify each other and the commentator who made the statements?

I am glad at least that, at best, this is a small, low population backwater forum. Clearly not mainstream Australia, I am thankful for that small mercy.

The bottom line, this is a child protection issue.

As to the Labor/Liberal thing - if you rabidly support either party (as many posters here clearly do) you are quite specifically part of the problem and, as demonstrated by the abuse, ridiculous reasoning and erroneous statements couched as facts (of life possibly) totally disconnected from humanity. That is about as generous as I could be in my description.

So, a child protection issue. It is absolutely astounding that almost anywhere in Australia ALL of the professionals involved are what is referred to as Mandatory reporters - i.e. by law they MUST report issues of child abuse, suspected child abuse and/or neglect to child protection authorities - yet, this change in law from the Federal Government (Supported by the Labor opposition, hence neither team can hold their heads up with any pride), effectively rejects that same basic legal expectation in almost every state or territory in our Country.

I support the 40 doctors, nurses and health care workers personally.

The current Liberal Government are the absolute drivers behind the potential cover up of child abuse here, but, make not mistake, Labor are, quite clearly equally complicit. Whilst you lot who want to argue the politics of it, supposedly point score on each other and, somehow proclaim being "real Australia" - you are not my fellow country men and women by any stretch of the imagination.

I am sure those of you with children do love them, care for them and nurture them at least to the best of your capacity. I am astounded though that you cannot at any level look at your own children and feel absolutely no concern, care or even some basic empathy for the INNOCENT children in detention being abused and neglected. And before any actually are so low as to ask what about their own parents? WE put them into detention rightly or wrongly. That is point one, point two, I won't even waste time discussing the matter with you, as you are so far beneath my contempt you don't count as human - is that clear enough?

Good on Waleed. I don't often agree with him, I hardly ever watch the show, at least on purpose - yet, in this specific instance, he nailed it point blank.

For those who either;
a) Did not read the article
b) Failed to comprehend what was said

He VERY CLEARLY pointed the finger at both parties.

It cannot be overlooked presently though which party is in Government - because, they are the Government, they have the power, as it were. If the power is objectionable to any - then, let me put it this way, the Government is responsible....

I am sure there is an online dictionary for any who need to look up the meaning of responsible, I suspect if there is any honesty or self reflection, that would be a lot of posters here needing to look that up.

This is the comment that most aptly highlights exactly why the decision to revoke ANY citizenship is ludicrous to be left in the hand of any one person.

The huge decision to revoke citizenship can NEVER in a free, democratic and humane society be based on anything so superficial as someone's "opinion" of how the person presents.

The options for decision making are not based on opinion or fantasy (that might work ok in a little backwater forum) they need to be based entirely on fact based in evidence. Hence, the legal system needs to have the first bit of input...

I see. So you’ve missed the Friday segment where they cut to a local festival or community event in every capital city.

I won’t ask if you’ve read Waleed’s columns or heard his nightly radio interviews discussing the very issue you’ve described.

It’s the aura, innit.
