The black driver broke five laws ...

Oh well, summary execution seems entirely appropriate then.

Keep on trollin', Herbie   Wink

Why didn't you mention the fact that this black 'Usual Suspect' broke all of five laws during this little frack-arse?

Quite simple - the amount of laws he broke is completely irrelevant.

Even if he broke 500 laws, it does not justify summary execution.

Keep on trollin', Herbs.

You appear to be troll Greg, you have only read the headlines from the media and do not know the full story but have made a judgement based on headlines.

You appear to be are an ignoramus, Steamboat.

"A University of Cincinnati police officer was indicted Wednesday on murder charges in the fatal shooting last week of an unarmed black motorist who was stopped because of a missing front license plate."

"I've been doing this for 30 years," Deters said after meeting with Dubose's family. "This is the most asinine act I've ever seen a police officer make, totally unwarranted."

"Tensing "should never have been a police officer," he said without elaborating."

Next time, you should think before you post.

So why are they having a trial and not just putting the officer in prison?.

That's how the law works, that's why.

Are you acting this way, or are you really that ignorant of the law?

Seriously?      Undecided

I suggest that you go back and actually read the story.

[i]"A body camera video that Deters played for reporters showed Tensing stopped Dubose for a missing front license plate. Dubose failed to provide a driver's license as Tensing requested then tried to prevent Tensing, who told Dubose to take his seat belt off, from opening the car door.

"The car started slowly rolling forward as Tensing reached in and yelled for him to stop. The officer then pulled his gun and fired once, killing Dubose.

That's the evidence.

Indeed.

Video footage of the whole incident, and a dead unarmed body.

How do you think your friend will go in court?

He was shot because the police officer was an incompetent halfwit.

Something a few of you in here can easily relate to.

You're failing to read my posts carefully.

What 'Tensing' says is entirely his own subjective opinion. I couldn't give a rat's arse what he thinks.

You're failing to read the story carefully.

Tensing is the cop charged with murder.  The one you're defending.

Seriously, did everyone on the right take an extra dose of stupid pills today?

It will depend on the jury, if they are as stupid as you he might get off.

If someone threatened me with a knife and I had reasonable cause to believe that that person was capable of using it on me and was  close enough to do it and in fact was likely to carry out that act; nut job or no nut job I would use my gun on that offender without hesitation.

Roll Eyes

Surely it couldn't be because the police unfairly target black people and black communities on huge magnitude and that black people have become wary and distrustful of law enforcement for centuries of brutal discrimination that continues to this day.

No surely that can't play any part in it.

Hello Kiron -- as you may have noticed, OzPolitic offers opportunities for experimenting with alternative ideas and perspectives that can sometimes be challenging and confrontational to those who are only willing to see things from a conventional and orthodox viewpoint.

Gregg has been a long-time student of mine here, and his task in this thread is to try to counter my arguments with what seems to make sense to him, but with the rule that he must take into account all of the information that has been given -- and not just the sub-editor's headlines that have been sensationalised to sell more papers.

Welcome to the board.

I put that in to test your AT (Attention Quotient). Happily, you achieved a Pass on this particular occasion.

I think he will be found guilty regardless of the evidence, the media have tainted his chances of a fair trial. Look at your reaction to the media coverage, no chance you will now find a jury that can objectively consider the evidence and if they do find in his favour the plebs have only the news story to go on and that will contradict the decision they have already made.

Well, include the quote you're referring to when you post replies.

There's a good lad.

This thread is about a police officer being charged with murdering an unarmed citizen.

Don't let Herbie's trolling throw you off course.  That's exactly what he wants.

It is not about the license plate, but the shooting of an unidentified person for trying to run from a police officer is not a justifiable.

However, there is tone on the forum that seems to suggest something like "OMG! American police officers are going berserk!" It comes from a warped idea of the USA based on only the bad news from a population of 325,000,000. That many people is something most Australians have no conception of, except that its a big number.

This is also the attitude of "oh yes I know all about the USA because I saw it on TV."

It is quite possible to travel within the US for ten years and not see any Police violence. It is also statistically possible to meet more people that you have things in common with in the USA than you will ever see in Australia.
