Agreed.

But i'm looking forward to the literary gymnastics that will ensue when people try to create a definition of cult that includes Islam while excluding Christianity/Judaism/Scientology etc etc etc

People generally use the word to describe a group or belief which has ominous, sinister intentions .

cult noun:

1/. Followers of an unorthodox, extremist, or false religion or sect who often live outside of conventional society under the direction of a charismatic leader

2/. A religion or sect that is generally considered to be unorthodox, extremist, or false

islam fits the bill perfectly.

Isn't the only difference between an unorthodox, extremist, or false religion and a cult popularity?

In Roman times Polytheism was the in thing, and Islam, Christianity and Judaism were Cults.

Now days The last three are all large scale accepted religions and the anyone who goes around worshiping Pluto is considered a bit of a nutter.

The religions themselves havn't changed much, rather the public perception of the creeds.

I'd say that the torture and murder sanctioned in the qur'an is very definately ominous and sinister to the extreme

I wont argue with that, your entitled to your own opinion.

Maybe try to keep your opinions separated from quantitative statements, At least it will allow us the luxury of assuming you know the difference.

There is no evidence of the existence of a muslim, mohammed,or quran until 60 years  after mohammed was supposed to have died. Grin Grin Grin Posting on islam just encourages them and is a waste of time.

Absolutely. Shame the cult members can't see it. They will remain blind, led by blind guides fulfilling their own carnal desires at their expense.. Jesus prophesied them.

I really try to stay away from emotive language though I find it hard to resist the dark call of sarcasm.

so, did you end on deciding on a particular definition or did you figure it would be easier to skip straight to your preferred conclusion and skip all that tedious intellectual debate?

p.s i have read the quran twice, and the bible numerous times.

Thanks for your mature, constructive reply.

Honestly I actually had a nostalgic reflex and remembered arguing with kids in primary school when I read your post.  Smiley
