1) The words and deeds of Muhammed.

2) The views of Muslims on Islam (eg the Pew survey).

3) The actions of Muslims, where relevant.

How is this circular?

The "actions of the majority of Muslims" does not even make it onto the list. It does not even make sense. By that logic, driving on the right hand side of the road is more representative of Islam than just about anything else of relevance.

how can your really define the word Muslim?

You have Iran - an Islamic state, Saudi Arabia - another one,
you have ISIS & Turkey etc -

they all disagree about what it is to be a Muslim -
& want to fight each other to the death over it yet
they all claim they are Muslims.
