Behead them, slit their throats

Reclaim Australia supporter charged with threatening to slit the throat of prominent lawyer

Rachel Olding

A Reclaim Australia supporter has been charged with threatening to slit the throat of a prominent Sydney lawyer and campaigner against Islamophobia.

Mariam Veiszadeh reported the online threat to NSW Police, who last week charged a mother-of-three from Guildford with using a carriage service to menace, harass or offend.

In a private message sent to Ms Veiszadeh on Facebook, the 37-year-old woman allegedly said she would "find you and hunt you down".

Ms Veiszadeh says she has been subjected to shocking online abuse.

"Watch as we come for you in your sleep [and] cut your throat as you do [to] the animals you torment," said the rambling message sent at 11.06pm on July 12.

It allegedly included a threat to "kill your family for you to see [and] kill your uncle which is now your husband".

Ms Veiszadeh requested that Fairfax Media not publish the woman's name because she was concerned about vilifying her children, but she said she decided to report the incident as a deterrent to those who think they can get away with cyber-bullying.

Fairfax Media has seen a private message Paul Barnes sent Ms Veiszadeh on Sunday.

The woman started an online petition in February calling for the banning of Muslim head scarves and stricter immigration laws concerning Muslims only.

In it, she called on people to join her at the Reclaim Australia rally in Sydney on July 19, a week after she allegedly sent the message to Ms Veiszadeh.

Her Facebook profiles show an increasing interest in opposing Islam and she recently voiced her support for Reclaim Australia rallies in Newcastle and Cairns, as well as campaigns to ban halal certification and "Islamisation".

She will appear in Hornsby Local Court on September 8.

Ms Veiszadeh, founder of the Islamophobia Register, said she is often inundated with abusive and vile social media messages when she speaks out about what she believes are incidents of bigotry and Islamophobia in Australia.

Fairfax Media has seen a private message Ms Veiszadeh received on Sunday via Facebook from a Reclaim Australia supporter and anti-Islam campaigner, Paul Barnes, who said, "count your days".

Mr Barnes' Facebook profile says he is 68 years old and helped to organise a recent rally in Darwin.

In February, Queensland woman Jay-Leighsa Victoria Bauman was sentenced to 180 hours of community service after sending a string of threatening messages to Ms Veiszadeh.

Ms Bauman said she was "not scared of a bit of judgment" and would refuse to stay silent.

Ms Veiszadeh told Fairfax Media she believes prejudice, bigotry and far-right extremism is "flourishing" due to the "current political landscape".

"Our government's ongoing silence about the Reclaim Australia movement and the rise in far-right extremist organisations, is deafening," she said.

She said movements like Reclaim Australia have been gaining momentum and sprouting "vitriol, preaching hatred and ultimately inciting violence towards Australian Muslims".

"These threats issued against me are proof of it," she said.

NSW Police Force Deputy Commissioner Nick Kaldas recently told a University of Western Sydney conference that police were confronting problems arising from extremism, discrimination and racial tension.

He said community engagement efforts and multi-cultural strategies had been stepped up

Gun found in bag of NSW protester

A MAN with a group of protesters en route to an anti-Islam rally in Melbourne was found with a pistol in his bag.

VICTORIA Police chief commissioner Graham Ashton said his NSW counterparts seized the firearm from protesters who were travelling to Melbourne from Sydney to attend last weekend's Reclaim Australia rally.
"A few groups came down from Sydney. NSW police searched the bus of one of those groups, found a firearm, found a knife," he told 3AW radio on Thursday.

A NSW Police spokesman confirmed officers found a pistol in a 39-year-old man's bag outside Central Station in Sydney on Friday night.

"Officers searched the man and located a pistol in a secure container within the man's baggage," the spokesman said.

"There was no ammunition in his possession."

The man had a gun licence but the pistol was seized.

He was released without charge.

"Police investigations are continuing in relation to charges being laid," the spokesman said.

Violent scenes erupted in Melbourne on Saturday after protesters from the Reclaim Australia camp clashed with anti-racism supporters.

Hundreds of police blocked streets in front of Victoria's Parliament House, separating the opposing groups.

At least four people were arrested, placards set alight and police were forced to use capsicum spray.

Of course not. Muslims are the only ones with their own special crime unit. I imagine they would keep the police more busy with all the threats dished out by muslims to the UPF and other anti Islamic protesters.

Anyway she is certainly an islamist with an axe to grind judging from her website.

Islamophobia my ass.

Funny how they call everyone Islamophobic that aren't actually scared of them isn't it.

Just like the death threats the muslims made to the other side of the rally.

Just like every muslim threat made to pastors of churches in australia and any organization and person that offends muslim sensitivities.

Cheers

Actually the gun was found in the bag of a reclaim australia member. They were the only protesters "packing".

See hunting threads for correlations between gun ownership and penis size Smiley

Get a grip.

New South Wales Police have since said the gun was not found on the bus.

In a statement, police said they stopped a 39-year-old man near Sydney's Central Station on Friday night and found the weapon when they searched his luggage.

They said the man was a licensed gun holder and was carrying the weapon securely without any ammunition.

Police seized the gun anyway, but released the man.

So much for all the scare mongering eh.

I apologize for being uncomfortable with the idea that segments of the right wing community deem it necessary to bring guns to a peaceful protest.

If any other segment of the community does that same I will feel just as uncomfortable.
Fortunately so far its only been the Australia-re claimers who have felt the need.

What a vivid imagination, it was one of the unwashed leftards shock horror. Lucky the cops pepper sprayed theMorons and shoved them in a paddy wagon and locked them up. All whilst reclaim protesters laughed on. Darn double darn there goes the fantasy down the gurglar. Grin Grin Grin

Ah, No. It was one of The reclaim Australia organizers.
Please do some research before posting whywhywhy.

Though I appreciate the public display of ignorance.

I do enjoy the way you substitute emotion for logic in your posts, it gives one so many options when replying.

"An anti-Islam protester at last weekend's chaotic Reclaim Australia rallies in Melbourne had packed a pistol in his luggage, police have confirmed."

""This man was not a UPF member and did not march with UPF, he was a reclaim organiser."

"Police are concerned about the growing threat to their safety at anti-Islam rallies after a gun was seized from a Reclaim Australia protester."
