Cabs are out there 24/7/365 come hail or high water.  (It's a licence condition.)  Uber?  Not on yer nelly.

sure they will ... once those cabbies get their compensation for their cabs they'll throw away their plates and go to work for uber, manning the same ranks, working the same hours ...  Cheesy Cheesy

You clearly have absolutely no idea how Uber operates.  They are not interested in work off ranks, or providing a 24/7 service on demand.  All they want is the top end of the market.  So do we, but we also look after the completely inviable end of the market.

Best way to put it to you, Mr Smith is this.  You are an Uber driver.  You are at home in bed..on a freezing cold night.  Your Uber phone goes off, and a slurred voice asks you to come and get him from a local party and take him home....estimated value....$10.00.  You are free to say no.

As opposed to there being an entire fleet of Cabs already out there working....and all the bloke has to do is ring the Cab Co and his Cab will be there in an instant.

yes yes aussie, I'm sure you'd be the first person to highlight all the positives off Uber .. I already said it will evolve to meet the market

if the taxi driver is willing to stay out and wait for fares now working for yellow cabs brisbane, he'd be just as willing to stay out and wait for fares if he was working for Uber ..

Again....you reveal your understandable ignorance.  Uber and its drivers are not offering a 24/7 service on demand. Uber drivers are 'owners' of privately registered and insured cars (they are not registered or insured for commercial use) who want to make a few dollars on top of an existing income, or to augment a pension.  If they are not doing a job, they are at home watching footy or asleep in bed.  They can reject a call for a lift if it does not suit them anytime they like.

Cabs.....we are fully insured and out there 24/7/365 on demand no matter how lousy the job is.  By regulation, we are not allowed to reject a job.  If we do, we are liable to prosecution, and we generally are if there is a pattern of rejection.

I'm with you Pansi.  What hypocrisy these anti-Uber people are.  We get all this gaff about free markets, regulations are bad and how they should be rewarded for the risk they take and suddenly we all owe them a living because the risk they took is going bad.

Uber says that they have insurance that covers you  ... do you believe Uber, or do you believe Aussie?

Simple to respond to.  Next time you see a Uber car, ask the driver (who is meant to be the owner) how much he pays for rego and comprehensive insurance.  If he answers "About $14,000.00 per annum," he is legally insured commercially.

It is entirely true that Uber tells its drivers ('owners' of privately owned vehicles) that they have insurance in place in the USA.  When the sheat hits the fan and some poor Uber passenger is rendered down to quadriplegic capacity, we'll see, won't we.

Ah....Grasshopper...another lack of understanding.  The Taxi Industry was never a free market.  It was always and still is a thaing created by Government and heavily regulated by Government as a source of revenue.

no, it is you who doesn't understand you nincompoop ... you bought up possible future scenarios if uber is allowed to flourish, I bought up possible future solutions .... don't tell me that's not how they work now. Now has nothing to do with it.

The taxi mafia can't handle competition so resorts to violence to stamp it out Cheesy LOL

Similar to the coal industry and its representatives in the liberal party trying to stamp out competition from renewable energy Cheesy LOL

That is something you'll never see.  I can take the Uber hit, many times over..........but what you seem to regard with some sort of frivolity is that (forgetting licence owners) there are 15,000 Queensland families under threat from this outlaw.

Hilarious, isn't it Mr Smith.

Don't worry.  We saw the same sort of job losses when film cameras were replaced by digital cameras but no one is complaining now Wink

I was just being sarcastic and saying that your revolt against Uber has more to do with supporting the government than it has with saving your own necks Wink
