Uber says that they have insurance that covers you  ... do you believe Uber, or do you believe Aussie?

Aussie, to drive for UBER is madness.

You said that the government has organized the taxi system to profit from it so I say that it's very noble of you to maintain the status-quo for them so they can continue to profit from it Wink

"Profit' is not a word I'd use.  The payment they receive on a licence release is revenue, and then there are ongoing fees and charges paid ~ they would argue are for 'services.'

It's still a very noble cause to help the government maintain its revenue stream from an otherwise outdated business model Cheesy LOL

Anyone who has taken a taxi has put up with:

Dirty taxis,
Late taxi
Smelly taxi
Smelly driver
Non-English speaking driver
Driver who cant find the destination
Drivers who steal your belongings (twice!)
Rip-off drivers

and that's before we talk about rapists and violent drivers.

Uber sounds good to me.

Of course it is.

The only ones grumbling about it are those sad and sorry sore losers who think they can continue to rip people off.

No, you must be mistaken, none of that would ever happen as the taxi industry is highly regulated by the government.

I'd be all for it if Uber cars had some sort of swipey thing, passenger/driver/registered vehicle. Swipe customers id, swipe drivers id, enter destination and pick-up points. Unreged/insured cars automatically denied, not sent, dodgy drivers not sent. It's like car pooling with unknowns. The unknowns need to be removed. A WWC check for drivers for eg. The idea is good, it's old, it's car pooling taken to another level. Safeguards, only people that have gone through proper police checks/wwc check should be accepted as drivers. IE  you need to register to drive. A WWC check is $80.

There are no unknowns. Uber won't take on a driver with a car more than 5 years old so its pretty hard to get away with the old bomb routine. I believe the system is foolproof and payment is made online and not via the cab driver helping himself to your eftpos card. Yes I have seen a punch-up with a cab driver over this sort of thing !!
