Quote:
Australia will seek to broaden and deepen its security ties with the US in the decades ahead as the rise of China and other Asia-Pacific powers risks fueling instability in the region, Australian Minister for Defence Kevin Andrews said yesterday.

I don't understand what this is supposed to mean.

Australia has bought the Growler aircraft, US forces have a permanent presence in Darwin, and Talisman Sabre is conducted. And they are interested in Japanese submarines. Japan is often touted as the major US ally in Asia. And there are multiple US military facilities in Japan.

This is not like Romania joining NATO.

Why is this news?

I am from a foreign government. This is not a joke. I am authorised to investigate state and federal bodies including ASIO.

I could actually tell you why Taiwanese media are compelled to report heavily on Australian everything, including sporting results, but I might get in trouble.
